Re: TV: The X Files
Agree that it was stupid, especially the finale. It was as if the showrunners thought what people liked about TXF were exposition-y conversations between Mulder and the CSM and Scully standing in a laboratory. Darin Morgan's episode was worlds better, and even the other MOTW-type episodes (like the one about the trash man) felt like they had more life.

Morgan's episode made the whole thing worth it but they really need to do better this time around.

I know a lot of people hated the last series... but Jesus this trailer looks awesome.

The lack of hype around the upcoming season actually makes me more excited. Five episodes and only the first one is a "mythology" episode--seems like they may have learned their lesson from last season. The 4th episode is the Darrin Morgan helmed episode, for those of you who are into his shit (me included).

Re: TV: The X Files
It's getting far better reviews thus far then the last go around, but we'll see. I've been rewatching episodes sporadically over the past week, and it's still my favorite show. There are flaws, but its strengths, and the fascinating parts about it, have gotten stronger with repeated viewing.

Isn't the new season ten episodes?

Maybe only the first five titles have been announced and that's what I was looking at.Biff Pocoroba wrote:Isn't the new season ten episodes?

While Chris Carter has said he did not necessarily write the finale as the series finale Gillian Anderson has said this is her last go around with the show.

Re: TV: The X Files
Yeah I don't get that. 10 episodes is not exactly a heavy load for an actress. I'm very skeptical about Carter's ability to satisfy at this point anyway so whatever. That one monster of the week episode from last season was wonderful though. Hoping we get another nugget like that out of the new season.Biff Pocoroba wrote:While Chris Carter has said he did not necessarily write the finale as the series finale Gillian Anderson has said this is her last go around with the show.
There's an X Files fan fest in March pretty close to me I might go to. So far CSM, Skinner, Krychek X and some other actors are supposed to be there. I've never been to a nerd fest for anything but it might be cool to check out.

Actors take perverse pleasure in telling anyone that will listen that they have no interest in continung to play the roles people actually want to see them in.

I dont think we can take her serious. She, and Duchovny, said that 10 years ago and here we are.
While i really want to see the new season, i hope this is the last one.

Re: TV: The X Files
Overall, the new season's getting far more positive reviews, with the caveat that the Carter mythology episodes are still kind of a mess.

That review really gets at something that makes me feel like the show (or Carter specifically) is missing a bit of an opportunity; the state of the country's very fertile ground for this show, probably more than at any point in its existence. I feel like there's a lot of positive ways for the show to explore it, but I'm not sure Carter's a good enough writer any more to do so. The review seems to make the point that the stand alone episodes are a bit more keyed in to what's going on than in the past.
