That 1st test was a corker. In particular watching Agar bat was a joy.

England at 3-for in the 2nd atm. Harris bowing line and length. Haven't seen anywhere near enough of that for Australia lately.

This is still my favorite moment of all time:

I can still remember watching it at the time. Bevan is probably my favorite player too.
That was an amazing day and "one of those moments". Michael Bevan, with that innings in particular, is responsible for my wife's love of cricket for which I am forever in his debt.

I remember being up at 3am on a work night watching this one, lost my shit at the end, dancing about the place (not dissimilar to the happy dorky drunk Australian immortilised in the crowd at the end) . Lance Klusener was a monster.

If either team could bat at the top of the order they would win eaisly.

Maybe today is the day when we find out what the point of Johnny Bairstow is.

Game on guys. We get some early wickets and Usman will be in by 1-60 after Watto gets his usual quick 30-40. Hopefully the boy gets some time in the middle and then some time in the team. He's the big hope for me, the only one who can hold his wicket and grind out a session or two if needed.

I just spent an hour or so youtubing cricket bits. Watching Warne bowl was a total pleasure, espescially over the course of a test match.

You're dead right about that era for Australia - so many great names - Steve Waugh's 24 yard stare, Gilchrist striding out to open, Ooh-Aah putting it on the spot time after time, Healy's work behind the stumps, Ponting patrolling short cover, Hayden and Langer, Mark Waugh at 2nd slip thinking about the horses. Great stuff indeed.

Back to today's reality...I could have strangled Siddle with his no-ball clean rip. Like they said last night - the white line doesn't move - get it right for crying out loud. I'm glad Smith came to the party with 3 wickets late in the day - 7 for 289 is better than where I thought we'd be.

Trouble is I get the feeling that with Australia's current form with the bat 300 plus is a match-leading innings these days and will set England up just fine. Bugger.

But yeah, I agree about Usman - looking forward to watching him go. Australia needs some grit in the top order, hopefully he can provide it.

I've been lucky enough to be a member of the SCG since 92 so I saw nearly every test (all days) and nearly every O/D'er between 92-2006. Saw so many great matches and moments.

There's a real teamwork problem going on. Watson's DRS review and Haddin running out Agar. That was 100% Agar's call and there was clearly a run in it. Every player is just looking out for himself and trying to get a spot in the next game and the whole team is suffering for it.

Yes. And that is the fault of the selectors. There's no continuity and they keep chopping and changing (team and batting order). They need to back the six batsmen and say you are all playing the next 3 tests so don't stress. Relax and play cricket. If they fail, deal with it then. This series is lost already.

Warner failed in Zimbabwe overnight again so he's out of form too. No other options for the batsment unless they go back and recall Katich (who is having a great English summer).

Welcome to being England in the 90s. Don't worry about not making it to five days though, Cook won't declare, he will wait to be all out. Could be a draw still :)

But I'm not too sure how you let us get from 28 and 30 for 3 to this position.

It's simple really. Bell plays only the balls he wants to or has to play. Every Aussie plays nearly every ball because they feel they have to get 4 runs an over. And they're not that good or confident in English conditions.

Well you should make it to 150 maybe even 200. You know 5-0 might be on after all.

At this point I certainly wouldn't be betting against it.
