Interesting. It seemed too thin for a stout, at least to me, and I picked up a strange herbal taste that I just didn't like.Electromatic wrote: I've always liked Chicory Stout for what it's worth, what didn't you like about it? The last time I got it was early last year and it was good.

Hmm, I do remember it being fairly thin. I think mexican coffee is pretty mild on the whole as well. I wonder if it's the chicory you're tasting.
To each his own.
Any other good stouts you've had lately? I enjoyed the Southern Tier Chocolat and Sierra Nevada Narwhal (though the Narwhal generally taste to me like most well made high alcohol stouts)
I'm still a sucker for North Coast Old Rasputin.

If I'm not drinking homebrewed stout, I tend to drink big stouts like, of course, Old Rasputin. Some other standouts lately have been FBS, Great Lakes Blackout Stout, Southern Tier 2X Stout (Imperial Milk Stout), and SN Narwhal (aging my last two). If I'm going for something with a lower ABV I usually stick with Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout, Sierra Nevada's basic Stout , Rouge's Chocolate Stout and Guinness.Electromatic wrote:vegman wrote:It seemed too thin for a stout, at least to me, and I picked up a strange herbal taste that I just didn't like.Electromatic wrote: I've always liked Chicory Stout for what it's worth, what didn't you like about it? Brooklyn Brewery has a new Dry Irish Stout that's pretty damn good.

A lot. And it seemed like overnight. I remember drinking it fine in early October. A month later, it was horrible.Electromatic wrote:Did yours change much?Chris_H_2 wrote:Interesting. Wierd, I wonder what happened. Mine stayed upright in my refrigerator for 11 months, and it was still good.Chris_H_2 wrote:A lot. And it seemed like overnight. Nice, I keep meaning to get the 2x Stout, I've tried it, but I'd like to get more. If you make it to Georgia sometime, try and get Jailhouse Breakout Stout.
Ive seen brewing kits for the Rogue Shakespeare Stout, have you ever made that one?

The Alaskan Winter Ale Nate sent me was brewed with spruce tips. It made for such a great winter ale I'm really upset I only had one.

Re: You Will Drink Good BEER ... And It Will Be Delicious!
I've never tried the Shakespeare Stout. I brew an Oatmeal Stout that's a knockoff of Sam Smith's with a little coffee added and it's one of my standby homebrews. As a matter of fact I'm kegging a batch in a few more days.Electromatic wrote:vegman wrote:If I'm not drinking homebrewed stout, I tend to drink big stouts like, of course, Old Rasputin. Can't say I've had any of those but Grand Teton Brewing Company is a great name.intodeep wrote:I got some beers from out west i've never tried before. I think mostly from idaho:

Had a six pack of this over the weekend. Pale wheat ales are hit or miss for me (not that I've tried a lot of them), but this hit the spot.

It's pretty decent. Let us know what you think.
I've had most of everything the brewery has put out, and found that the only truly interesting brews by Boulevard are those in its Smokestack Series and its collaborations.
