New Dan Auerbach is a lovely listen. catchy and breezy. Going to be a great summer listen.
Also enjoying the new Justin Towns Earle album.

Dan Auerbach is fucking garbage and he's been going downhill since The Black Keys stopped being a band playing the local bars here in Cleveland.
I saw them play in the Beachland tavern when I was a teenager and now they sell out stadiums with their watered down bullshit.

So according to their facebook pages, they are actually releasing an album. (and touring in north america).Freewheelin wrote:Dunno if it's gonna be an album, an EP or just a single but Kurt (vile) and Courteney (Barnett) have been recording together for some kind of release. Has the potential to be slacker radness.
And Janet Weiss is on their band.
Holy shit.

Some new stuff that I've recently acquired:
Castle If - Plant Material
Picked this one up on a whim, as it's an artist from the Toronto circles I follow that I've heard of, but never checked out. Low key electronic, typically known as 'library music.'
Myk Freedman and the Mykfreedmans - Myk Freedman and the Mykfreedmans
The debut recording of Myk Freedman's new sort-of-eponymous ensemble. Continuing to mine his songbook of jazz, klezmer, folk, and pop-inspired tunes, Freedman's new band is similar to his Saint Dirt Elementary School, only with a snappier, tighter approach with a bit more swing.
Nick Kuepfer - Compromised by the Quag
Late in 2016, Nick Kuepfer released a collection of field recordings and instrument exercises recorded during his residency aboard the tall ship Antigua off the coast of Svalbard. While interesting, it wasn't really meant to be listened to as an album. Compromised by the Quag, on the other hand, is a proper follow up to 2013's Phonotaxis. Rhythmic drone with accents of lo-fi techno and American primitivist folk.
Some stuff that's coming out later in the year:
Ex Eye - Ex Eye
Debut recording from instrumental metal/jazz quartet featuring Colin Stetson on saxophone, Greg? Fox on drums, Shahzad Ismaily on bass and synth, and Toby Summerfield on guitar. Out June 23 on Relapse.
Mogwai - Every Country's Sun
Ninth album from these guys. Lead off track "Coolverine" is an excellent piece of slowly unspooling instrumental groove with an icy synthesizer lead. Should be quite a journey from there.

Hey Brett, listen to this. Curious about your thoughts on one of my favorite 2017 releases (a three-song EP from Argentine singer María Pien)

It does quite a lot in a short running time. I like the prominent rhythmic focus and whatever effect is being used on many of the vocals. The song structures are unusually complex, and one of my favorite bits is in the third song where there's a little math rock thing going on. Some pretty solid tunes.
