Which is just crazy to me because i can't wrap my head around the idea of touring with someone and not really knowing them. But then i remind myself that they are 50 year old men and probably aren't in a van together criss crossing the nation and staying in dumpy motels anymore.
Im more reading that as being when he was given the initial chance to be in TOTD. He was thankful for that chance because he didn't know Chris that well back then. I could be wrong though.
Dude, *Matt Cameron* has said the same thing about Chris Cornell. I just read it somewhere among the Cornell death coverage, but he said that to someone just a year or two before Soundgarden's breakup. Something along the lines of 'after all these years, I still don't feel like I know him all that well. Chris was a closed off and hard to read personality, a common trait among artists.
It's personal relations between dudes, I'm everyone here has familiarity with that. I've had people I've been friends with that I don't truly know that well and vice versa. It's all cool, we just don't have that open and personal relationship, most likely cause of my own hangups.
I'd say Mike and Chris were musician buddies, probably like most of these guys are. They have a connection over the music and they bond over that. Doesn't mean they do game nights with the wives every Thursday night.
