Lots of Marvel digital titles are on a weird sale at Amazon. Any SW stuff I should check out?

The Darth Vader series
The main SW title
The Lando miniseries

The Han miniseries is pretty damn good, too. The first three a must-haves. The Han book is really good, but not essential.

Started the Rogue One: Catalyst book yesterday and so far it's less than ideal. If Rogue One is Star Wars 3.5, this is kind of like Star Wars 3.25. There's people from the prequels, the Republic still exists, and the bad guys are the Separatists. Eventually it shifts to the Empire but it's incidental to the story. And the story...it's almost like I don't care. It's political machinations at best. Kind of like if George Lucas and his "Phantom Menace" were still haunting the story rooms.

I found Catalyst very underwhelming. Couple interesting things, but overall very... ugh.

I didn't have much desire to read Catalyst but this description really makes me want to read it.

The further I get into the book, the more I realize that Krennic was a pretty great character that plays the machinations game plenty far ahead of everyone else. Also I prefer the book to the movie version as he's more subdued and calculating instead of "the POWAH" guy we got in the movie. He's plenty good, don't get me wrong, but he's different.

Saw is different as well. Kind of more wild-eyed, I guess?

The Legends of Luke Skywalker

“You know how Han Solo says, ‘It’s true, all of it’? Well, was it really?” Siglain says. This book by Ken Liu presents its stories as rumors circulating through the galaxy.

It’s a clever way to avoid tangling up canon while still delivering tales about the farmboy-turned-hero’s experiences between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens — and also showing what other denizens of the galaxy know about his true exploits.

“For kids coming out of that movie, for casual fans coming out of that movie, you hear about Luke Skywalker for that whole film, but you only see him for two seconds at the end. He doesn’t even say anything,” Siglain says. “This book is a book that goes into some of those stories that were told, some of those legends of Luke Skywalker. Are they true? Well, maybe. Maybe not.”

The book, which hits shelves on Oct. 31, has a structure similar to a cosmic version of The Canterbury Tales, with each traveler telling his or her story to the group over the course of their journey.

Did Luke Skywalker actually take down 20 AT-ATs in the Battle of Hoth? Was he just a charlatan who made up the story of his Death Star run? Is it possible he was at the Battle of Jakku chronicled in Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath novels?

“What are those stories that Rey has been hearing, that the rest of the galaxy has been hearing, and what has Luke been doing since then?” Siglain says. “The framing device for this is there are a bunch of kids on a cargo ship that’s traveling to the casino world of Canto Bight. Someone says something about Luke Skywalker, and they say, ‘Oh, he was just a myth. That’s just a legend.’ And others say, ‘No, no, no. I know a story about him.’”

Then Liu unspools six different stories, including a first-person account (told second-hand) about a flea-like alien who claimed to be on Luke’s shoulder during some critical history.

“It’s a mole-flea named Lugubrious Mote that is present during the time of Luke’s interactions with Jabba, including his battle with the Rancor and the fight on the sail barge,” Siglain says. “The mole-flea is not present in The Last Jedi, nor on the ship to Canto Bight, though he does help to illustrate Yoda’s point that ‘size matters not.’”

TBH this is just Lost Stars, redone but about luke. I was hoping for actual stories in between Jedi and TFA.
Once again just getting OT events told from a different point of view which was a nice trick in lost stars, it worked. But even if this is great it crumbles under the expectation I personally had for it

And yes. A flea???

Jedi master luke Skywalker didn't know he had sentient living being on him coincidentally at some of the biggest moments of his life.

Hardly.

Fucking IN! This sounds like a brilliant way to approach this.

Tales like his though are usually always greatly exaggerated. Not diminished.

I'm glad you quoted this because I didn't get that in the first reading of the story. That does actually sound really cool, like a mythical retelling vs. what's on screen. A retelling of the Gods and Monsters, as it were.

Full disclosure.

I missed that too. That's exactly the period I wanted.

But as rumours though? That pablo will no doubt come back and call lies. The bastard

As witnessed by a mole flea on his shoulder the whole time.
