Villenueve has the worst taste in projects

Have you seen any of his pre-Prisoners stuff, and is it any good?

I haven't. I've heard good things, but I don't trust them.

Enemy (Villeneuve/Gyllenhaal). I really enjoyed it. I'm unfamiliar with the book on which it's based, so no thoughts there. But I liked the creepy ambiguity of it all.

I loved Enemy. Its just nonsense, but it looks amazing and yeah, there is a very creepy feeling that i adore.

Day of the Outlaw. What a fascinating movie. Some of those scenes are going to be seared in my memory. Robert Ryan and Burl Ives were remarkable actors.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Speaking of, I rewatched The Naked Spur yesterday. Hadn't seen it in a long time. That movie is staggeringly gorgeous to look at. And filmed in Colorado! I think I might try to find some of the filming locations.

Joey if you're listening, I'm resurrecting this:

Enemy is laughable nonsense.

I gotta tell ya, the trailer had me scratching my head. I've been avoiding it. It looks very different from the book, which is fine, but has me concerned. But I really dig Villenueve. And Gyllenhaal. So I feel like I should give it a shot.

Especially now that I'm more removed from the book. It's not so fresh in my mind.

So I just read some quotes from Villeneuve in which he talks about some of the bold choices he made that deviate from the book. His rationale seemed totally reasonable. So I'd enjoy hearing your thoughts on the film if you ever get to watching it.

Also, this film was like a watered-down cocktail of Hitchcock and Cronenberg. Which is not to imply that it was bad; just that the two influences loomed large, even if Villeneuve couldn't quite match their execution.

Nice. I've been thinking more and more about this movie recently. I'm reading Saramago's travel guide/journal about Portugal and it's got me revisiting his fiction work in my mind. My wife mentioned The Double and I told her about this movie. So, I think we might try to track it down sooner than later. I'll let you know how I feel once I see it.
