Maybe I watched that Celtics/Lakers doc too much this weekend, but I yearn for the glory day when you could employ the "rough 'em up to slow 'em down" approach.

Steph, KD, Klay... all slight builds... If I was a coach, I'd put them on the ground every time they shot the ball.

But I'm guessing the league anticipated this and sent out warnings early in the Dubs run.

I miss the old days when he could send someone in to bodycheck Steve Nash every time he came down the court and when yourself a championship.

The Cavs did exactly this in last year's Finals and the year before. Not sure why they wanted to run with the Warriors this year. Also, Klay is pretty strong for his size. He can more than hold his own in the post.

The Cavs did exactly this in last year's Finals and the year before. Not sure why they wanted to run with the Warriors this year. Also, Klay is pretty strong for his size. He can more than hold his own in the post.

That was the wierdest thing about the finals. Why the hell the Cav's thought they needed to try to put up 50 threes in a game rather than drive and slash for fouls and traditional 3 pt plays I'll never understand.

I don't think you can compare what the Cavs did those years to the rough play of the 80s and 90s or even the tactics most teams used to beat those Nash-led Suns teams.

I don't think you can compare what the Cavs did those years to the rough play of the 80s and 90s or even the tactics most teams used to beat those Nash-led Suns teams.

Rules were different. It helps those 80s teams rarely played defense in the regular season and when they did it was usually one on one defense. Rarely were they worrying about cross-matches, constant switching, and defending the whole floor. It's easy for a post player to play "physical" when they don't have to take more than three steps outside of the paint.

I tend to like today's modern game from an aesthetic standpoint, but I do wish more teams played different styles (like the Grizzlies or Spurs).

I was referring to previous years (2010-2016). I think the Jazz have a unique style of play too. They can play all kinds of lineups.

It seems like this Warriors team is really the first NBA "dynasty" that didn't have to run the gauntlet other teams had to in the past. "Back in the day" you had to take your knocks and adjust and get tougher. The Pistons/Bulls/Spurs all had to get tougher. The Suns had the 3rd winningest record over a ~25 years span but never won a championship because they were soft.

I understand this is the new NBA and the league wants this kind of game, but I'm not sure I'm a fan. Numbers have depreciated in value so much that assists and points are virtually meaningless now. It's like we are in the NBA's version of the steroid era.

The Warriors made the playoffs the two years prior to their first championship and got knocked out by the Spurs and then the Clippers with a horrible coach guiding them. Before that their core was too young or not even on the team.

Assists in particular are meaningless.

I swear, both Harden and Russ got 8 assists a night by dribbling the ball for 22 seconds, then dumping it off to some poor sod who'd have to jack up a shot.

Basically fans are really pissed Jimmy didn't fetch more and even more pissed they gave Minny 16 and sold their second rounder to gsw. Apparently, the guy gsw drafted is a future hall of famer. When anyone suggests the league just doesnt value Jimmy as much as bulls fans do it's brushed off, that the offers weren't there because it's garpax and other gms know how dumb they are. Jimmy has been on the market for like two years...the league just doesn't rate him.

One fan tried to compare Jimmy to Paul Pierce, saying Pierce was nothing until the big three elevated his status. Why couldn't Jimmy do the same? 'I don't see why he can't be a hall of famer' Just nonsense like that.
