Rogue II: The Lumpy Chronicles
Then I would love Disney

Team LV.

I no longer consider myself a SW fan. Find it trite and uninspired now.

They are getting weighed down by the mythos instead of building on it.

Limited by the archetypes instead of creating new ones.

Totally! But my hope is that this is basically their way of re-establishing the key pieces for the new generation: the major players and whatnot. And once that stuff is established, then hopefully they'll being to flesh out the cracks a bit more.
I think this is exactly what they're doing, trag.

But beyond that, as it regards this specific Han Solo film (and other comments in this thread), it seems that the directors didn't give a good tin shit about anything that came before and wanted to make a completely different film than was agreed upon. I can't fault Disney for taking action, regardless of how excited I am to see Disney move beyond the status quo. There is still a story thread, a canon that cannot be denied. For better or worse, it exists and it's a part of the fabric of Star Wars. It isn't about nostalgia, it's about story continuity and integrity.

There are some fantastic stories in those shows, yes. There are some SUPER shitty ones, too. But also those are hours and hours and hours of storytelling. The films are much more limited in their scope. So it makes sense that the shows are more interesting. I think the films will get there, though. We just have to expand past the "known" galaxy. Once Disney is comfortable going beyond regular characters and the established canonical timeline, we'll get much more diversity and experimentation. And that's coming.

Maybe, maybe not. But I think it is. We'll have to wait until the new saga trilogy is over. And we'll have to wait until the third stand-alone film is done, too. But, maybe you're right. Maybe they want the films to stay safe and they'll explore more in other media (books, tv, etc). That's very possible. And I'm not sure I have a problem with that, even if I don't think it's ideal.

I'd be fine with this. Blockbuster films every summer and/or Xmas; more interesting stuff delivered via Netflix, HBO, whatever.
See, trag gets it.

Yeah, tell that to David Lynch and the last episode of Twin Peaks.

I've started using the phrase "Geek Sheep" to describe the herd that surrounds the mindless state of Star Wars/Marvel popularism.

It's annoying as fuck.
