Re: Post Random Music-Related Thoughts You Have
We've had 4 straight days of 27c heat and completely blue skies.
It started pouring rain about 45 minutes ago. I'm flipping through Facebook.
Fucking Radiohead just went on stage here at 9.
Miserable fuckers ruined our good weather.

It all started when Kroeger claimed that his band, Nickelback, makes extremely diverse music. “I can’t think of another band that’s as diverse as we are. I can’t. And I don’t think that’s me talking from pride or ego,” he said, which led the interviewer to bring up Stone Sour as a point of comparison. Kroeger then said that Stone Sour sounds like “Nickelback Lite” and that Taylor has said some “really nasty things” about him in the press. (In a 2002 interview, Taylor called Nickelback “fucking pretty boys” and referred to Kroeger as “Shaggy from Scooby-Doo.”)

When you go see a band/group whose music is mostly electronic (like Sylvan Esso, or a rapper backed only by a DJ), what is the DJ person actually doing up there? Just queuing up the track and hitting play? Sylvan Esso, for example, every song the dude is going nuts over his little mixing board, laptop, etc setup, twiddling knobs and whatnot. Is any of that even affecting the sound? What's coming through the speakers sounds exactly like the recorded version.
I don't mean this in a mocking way. Just saw a ton of bands like this at Eaux Claires fest and it made me curious.

Yeah, it's really annoying actually. I've been to some electronic (mostly ambient or minimal type electronic shows) where the musician is actually mixing things live on stage, and recreating the songs in the moment. But unfortunately, with the software getting easier and easier and more prevalent, you do get the "DJs" who literally do just push play on a laptop and then flail around. It's more of creating a party and being an MC than a musician.guestT wrote:When you go see a band/group whose music is mostly electronic (like Sylvan Esso, or a rapper backed only by a DJ), what is the DJ person actually doing up there? Re: Post Random Music-Related Thoughts You Have
I just got a Google alert for a new Pearl Jam album release. Wha? So I click it and it says "Backspacer (German Version) is released today."
WTF. Is it the German version of the album, or is it sung in German a la Rammstein?

It's not bad. 17 songs, so it has quantity if nothing else.
I got that alert too. Betterman (Live). hah

Who was the better rhythm section: Jones/Bonham or Ward/Butler? I can't decide. Both were so incredible. Butler and Ward were fucking ridiculous on those first two Sabbath records.

For me, Jones and Bonham. They were more diverse.

I can't speak to which was more diverse. But I don't listen to (or even really know) the other two, so I'm totes going with Jones/Bonham.VinylGuy wrote:For me, Jones and Bonham. They were more diverse.

At the end of the day, I think I'd say that Bonham is the better drummer, but Butler is the better bassist.

Sorta interested in why you'd say "first two" and leave out "Master of Reality."LoathedVermin72 wrote:Who was the better rhythm section: Jones/Bonham or Ward/Butler? I can't decide. Both were so incredible. Butler and Ward were fucking ridiculous on those first two Sabbath records.
