I like 6 of the movies on this list. 4 of those 6 are goddamn masterpieces, though.

Really pleased to see that you like Young Guns 2. Most western fans seem so down on it.

I'm very off/on about Butch Cassidy. It's like a flawed Pearl Jam album. You know there is quality there, but something isn't as good as it could be.

I want to see High Noon again soon.

Butch Cassidy is one of the most perfect scripts ever written. I goddamn love it. Of course, it makes sense to me that verm hates it. I would expect nothing less. Young Guns 2 is great. High Noon is probably the best all around film of the ones I listed. Either that one of Butch. I go back and forth. Really, I could just watch those two and No Country for Old Men for the rest of my life and those would be enough to satisfy any sort of wild "western" craving I might have.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I love High Noon. I have no idea what technically classifies a film as a western. But I goddamn love No Country. It's far and away better than any of the other films being discussed so far (that I've see, of course). So, yeah, maybe it isn't a western. That would make sense.

You see flat, I see desolate and minimalist, which for me reinforced a lot of the themes.

It's possible to do desolate and minimalist in an interesting way. This just looked like ungraded digital footage. Hardly compelling.

I love No Country For Old Men, but have left any modern western off the list, like Hud, The Misfits and The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre. All movies that would make the top 40 if included.
