Just finished up season 5 with the wife last night. Getting to watch Hardhome all over again was still nothing short of spectacular.

i'm assuming we'll finally get to see the ice spiders in the last 2 seasons, considering they referenced them twice in season 5.

i'm looking forward to re-watching season 6. hopefully we can do it in the 10 days before the season 7 premiere (we both have to fire up the work laptops some nights). it'll be close.

It's just so difficult for me to get hyped about this new season while Twin Peaks is still happening. Hopefully, after the first new episode I'll get my boner back.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

What possible motive could Varys have to keep Ned alive, though? He has always been loyal to the Targaryeans and Ned was directly in opposition of them in the war. He just doesn't seem valuable to Varys past the point of keeping the unstable Joffrey on the throne for the time being.

I enjoyed watching the Battle of Castle Black this time, since I've definitely only seen it once before (unlike some of the other big set-pieces, like Hardhome and Blackwater Bay, which I've seen more than once). What struck me about the end of Season 4 the most, though, was that the finale was probably the best close-out episode that the show has ever had.

I understand people's frustration with Dany hanging around in Mereen so long, but there are some good moments sprinkled throughout. Case in point: I love in episode 0502 when they execute the former slaves and all the freedmen and women looked at Dany and hissssssss. It's a haunting scene.

Most of my issues with Mereen in the show have to do with the people around Dany, not Dany herself. But it's all the same storyline.

I promise I'm not. You're letting your bias get in the way. Go back and read it. Book 5 almost completely kills Dany. She's one of the best characters in the series and then GRRM strips her of everything and retcons her character into a fucking mess. The show handles it so much better.

I'm just wrapping up a feast/dance re read so it's all fresh in my mind. And I think the book handles her conflict between being a fire and blood targ or a tree planting queen really well. She learns one brutal lesson after another about what it means to rule, and more importantly, finally learns that she can't suppress the dragon inside her.

That last chapter where the fighting pits open, and Drogon eventually shows up and takes her away, the inner turmoil is just dripping off every line. You can feel the frustration tearing her apart, and it all stems from trying to be what she isn't. Drogon showing and fucking everyone up is just this perfect cathartic release of everything she was trying to push down.
