Lightening Bolt. I just came to a new PJ song for the first time in like ten years!

BTW, they completely lost the crowd with that 3hr break. London was much better.

Man of the Hour > Mother > Daughter...sounds like a new trilogy, fit for Ed's home town...too bad it didn't play out that way, though truth be told, that 1st encore if played as designed would have been slooooooooow.
I can't believe how many songs this was planned to be...wow. Also, Baba AND RITFW AND Ledbetter? Weird.

Now that this is over, let me just say I have a new distaste for PEARL JAM FANS. Motionless statues more concerned about beer refills and "gotcha catch 'em all" poster sets than the show. Of all the deaths PJ could die, death by fan has got to be the worst.

So I just got back and finished reading through this thread. It was a fun enough show overall, and it was actually pretty admirable what they were able to salvage from what could have been a pretty disastrous situation.
That being said, I have a feeling that cause of the delay and the band playing till two in the morning, this is going to get "LEGENDARY" status somewhere down there road, and it definitely doesn't deserve it.
There was a really nice stretch where the band was on (All Night through State of Love & Trust), but there were a few seriously weak moments. The Cubs history montage during All The Way is the kind of thing somebody would have joked about on here before the show and then gotten told off for being too cynical. Eruption and Bugs seemed like really bizarre choices to keep in the set, especially seeing as though they came at the (possible) expense of stuff like Sleight of Hand or Other Side. I don't mind Alive being dropped; that would have given us more than half of Ten, which is ridiculous. I don't care if Ed struggles with Crown of Thorns, that song is always fucking majestic in person. I wish Lightning Bolt had a stronger chorus, but it might just have been Ed struggling with it that made is sound weaker (kinda like when they first started playing Got Some live). The different approach to the bridge on Corduroy worked better than I would have thought (that might be my all-time favorite Pearl Jam song, so I kinda don't like to see it fucked with, but this seems to work).
On the whole a fun night once things got going. I'm a night owl so just the thought of still being at a Pearl Jam show at two in the morning made for a good time.

Being stuck with them in underneath the bleachers for over two hours was fucking terrible. Earlier this year I got trapped on the Aerosmith ride at Disney World for 25 minutes while a 5 second clip of Steven Tyler yelling "ROCK N ROLLER COASTER!" played on a loop for the entire time as I was strapped down the point of being motionless and I thought "This is my existential hell." Tonight's rain delay was worse than that.broken iris wrote:Now that this is over, let me just say I have a new distaste for PEARL JAM FANS. The new stuff definitely sounds like a logical extension of Backspacer.

I'm happy for that Come Back guy.
With the huge caveat that these are crappy audience recordings Lightning Bolt seems pretty catchy and Mike seems to play the shit out of it. It has the upbeat feel of backspacer, but it's about 90 seconds longer than anything on that album.
Future Days sounds really nice. Like how we all wanted Speed of Sound to sound.
This sounds nothing like just breathe other than the fact that it is a slow acoustic song and Eddie sings it.

You're right there. Maybe more like that Better Days track from some soundtrack. I didn't listen to it much though to be honest.stip wrote:This sounds nothing like just breathe other than the fact that it is a slow acoustic song and Eddie sings it.

lightning bolt starts to unfold nicely on multiple listens. The problem is that the first half of the first verse is the weakest.
