bitcoin, the blockchain, and cryptocurrency
what you think? I bought a little bitcoin last year just to play around, and holy shit. I've been expecting a bit of a crash to buy again, but its hanging in there.

The beanie babies of our time. Block chain tech will be used in lots of places, but it is highly unlikely that any supranational currency will be used for day to day transactions.

I had a feeling this was a Burt thread before I read the author.
When I forgot my debit card the other day the guy behind the counter at the coffee shop told me they accept all forms of payment, even bitcoin. I wasn't sure if he was serious or not. I really don't know what bitcoin is. I ended up using Apple Pay.

I've heard about Steemit and a couple of other social networks that use it to pay content providers. I doubt it will take off, but who knows. It seems really confusing, though.Bi_3 wrote:Block chain tech will be used in lots of places...

A lot of places take it these days, and you can buy pretty much anything online with it, but the wild swings in value must make it hard to price anything with. It seems like it needs the dollar or some other fiat money around to work.washing machine wrote:I had a feeling this was a Burt thread before I read the author.

Re: bitcoin, the blockchain, and cryptocurrency
Give me the gist of bitcoin in a five sentence post. Then edit it to include three sentences on the blockchain after someone posts below it. Please and thank you.

Re: bitcoin, the blockchain, and cryptocurrency
It might be more useful to define a blockchain first: Essentially a decentralized database that acts as an tamperproof ledger that eliminates the need for middlemen, brokers, government agencies, etc. Digital currencies use this technology, but one can see its uses in many areas.
Centralized intermediaries are susceptible to hacking, corruption, fraud, etc and require fees to fund them. A blockchain has none of these disadvantages.
Full disclosure: I am Satoshi Nakamoto.

Re: bitcoin, the blockchain, and cryptocurrency
Speaking of Western Union, they make a fortune off of remittances to the 3rd world. They become entirely obsolete with digital currency.
