You soiled your Spiderman costume during the opening credits, didn't you Burt?

If someone threw that annoying fat kid off a roof I'll pay for another ticket just to see that. But it better be Rated R gore.

Re: Spider-Man: Homecoming (7/28/2017)
I really enjoyed the high school dynamics, and I liked Ned as a sidekick. Vulture was a compelling villain (and one who survives, for once), Iron Man wasn't overused (and Happy Hogan was funny). Tom Holland was fantastic as spider man, and the lower stakes of the story were a nice touch. This was a really effective origin story insofar as we got to watch him learn to use his powers, with lots of great little moments (the suit interactions were excellent, and I loved the interrogation scene). It was a also a great example of the lived in benefits of a shared universe.
This is not my favorite MCU movie by a long shot, but I had a blast.

Re: Spider-Man: Homecoming (7/28/2017)
It was, another typical Marvel movie, BUT, I did like it more than the last handful. Spider-man definitely worked better in this movie than he did in Civil War, where he was simply there to tell jokes (so the little kids wouldn't get tooooo upset at Cap punching Shell Head). That being said, its Spider-man, your most kid friendly character, and you make a porn joke? As all the parents awkwardly giggled I hear 2 different kids "whats porn mom/dad" LOL Shocked Disney left that one in there.

I enjoyed that twist. I didn't expect it, and the scene in the car was fairly chilling.

Oh no kids heard the word porn and parents might actually have to explain something totally natural to them how could Disney do it

I love that you'll come into every marvel movie thread and trash the movie and anyone that dares enjoy it, but you love Michael bay movies.
That's some world class irony.

I haven't said anything about any Marvel movies since Age of Ultron, since I haven't watched any of them. I also haven't trashed anyone in this thread.tommymtcom wrote:I love that you'll come into every marvel movie thread and trash the movie and anyone that dares enjoy it, but you love Michael bay movies.

Why does everyone's review contain "Stark wasn't used too much"? Seems like a defense of him being there. He wasn't in it "too much" for me (whatever that means) but him in it felt like they were forcing the entry of Spiderman into the Avengers.
You guys get on LV for loving Bay movies even though they are "all the same formula", but man, the last few Marvel movies are the same way. After GotG 2 and this, I don't have high hopes for Ragnarok, which is disappointing because I love Thor.

Probably because he is so heavily featured in the trailers.E.H. Ruddock wrote:Why does everyone's review contain "Stark wasn't used too much"? Seems like a defense of him being there. I think a lot of people were worried this was going to be another Tony Stark ego trip of how he made Spider-man... because the trailers were coming off that way.E.H. But I'm with ya, the Marvel formula has gotten annoying. It worked in Spider-man simply because it fits his character better? IMO So this movie wasn't AS annoying as GotG2, Dr Strange, and some of the others. But the Ragnarok trailer definitely does not look promising. "I know him, were friends from work" ugh
As for the word porn... it was a cheap joke that got cheap laughs and came out of no where. But again, that falls back to the Disney/Marvel formula... cheap jokes

Marvel really is exhaustingly jokey. It makes me appreciate when movies can just have light, amusing scenes without having to spit out labored jokes constantly.

No one criticizes Bay for making 15 hours worth of plotless Transformer movies?E.H. Ruddock wrote:You guys get on LV for loving Bay movies even though they are "all the same formula",

"This is awesome! Want to help me put together my official Disney Star Wars toy?"
"Woah dude this is so cool! Here, have some Doritos brand chips, cool guy!"
"This is amazing, isn't it audience? Now go out and buy some Mountain Dew Ass Blast!" (I assume this happened after I walked out)

Honestly both of those felt teenagery enough to me that it didn't occur to me as product placement (especially the Death Star) until you pointed it out. They were also both in service of the plot or part of a visual gag, and so they fit in the scene.

ultimately I'm not the target audience for this. I'm sure 12 year olds will love it. It checks off the necessary boxes.

That's no excuse, though. There are plenty of movies I liked when I was 12 that still hold up.
