I don't think there's anyone left from the Stannis/Robert line except the bastard son they were going to sacrifice, correct?
In the show world, not really. But--if the relations from the book are assumed to be the same as the novels--the answer may surprise you: it's Jon Snow. Robert's grandmother--Rhaelle Targaryen--was the aunt of The Mad King, making him Rhaegar/Dany's great-aunt, and relatively close in the blood line to Jon. There's some talk that Robert's great-grandfather may have had another daughter, but I still think Jon would be closer.
Here's Rhaelle's family tree that could maybe help out (keep in mind that Jon's not listed because it hasn't been confirmed like the show): http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Rh ... yen#Family

Jon would only really have a strong claim if Rhaegar and Lyanna were married in secret; otherwise, it's Dany.

Although, as many commentators have noted after last season, this sort of discussion really is only theoretical. Power resides were men believe it to reside, as a famous merman once said.

Jon's not trueborn though.
Unless Rhaegar and Lyanna were married in secret, which is possible (even if it isn't likely). The Targaryens have done weirder stuff.

Polygamy was not unheard of among the Targaryens; Aegon I had two wives, remember: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Polygamy

The best evidence for a secret marriage has always been the presence of three kingsguard at the TOJ--why would they be there if they weren't guarding a member of the royal family? Sure, they could've been guarding a woman pregnant with the crown prince's bastard--it's not entirely unheard of for Kingsguard to accompany people who aren't members of the royal family--but it is pretty rare, and I think GRRM would totally dangle that as a huge clue.

Barristan Selmy addressed the issue of who typically gets Kingsguard protection in the chapter I read last night. Basically, it's whomever they're ordered to.

Funny you said that just after Stip explained why it did. :haha:
to be fair, we posted at the same time or near enough, i didn't see his post until after I posted. I read his interpretation, and it has merit, but i don't appreciate how the show has this habit of extended storylines that dont have resolutions except everyone dies. If, as stip says, it's more about how cersie gets defined, or redefined as a character, i guess that's fine, but im left feeling unsatisfied by the journey?

Those unfulfilled storylines are such a vital part of what makes this show compelling though. They spent several years on Margery, for instance, and took pains to show that she was playing a long game with the High Sparrow. I couldn't wait to see what she did, as I loved her character. And when she realized something was up i expected her to survive. But once the sparrow's goons wouldn't let her leave, I had this sinking and increasingly panicked feeling that Margery could die,and that her story could never end, and that is both incredibly powerful as a viewer and is baked into the fabric of the show. It isn't shock value. The sense that a story may not end, that someone could die at any time in this incredibly violent world, and the fact that even the most powerful of people are not immune to this fate is fundamental to the GoT experience. If every story arc wrapped up in a neat little bow the lingering dread that infuses every part of GoT wouldn't exist.

Funny enough, this is exactly why im frustrated by got. Id be happier if they resolved at least some of these various plots with more than incredibly well done deaths of major characters. It's like how some kids in my high school creative writing class would come up with great stories that spun all over the place and ended with someone waking up realizing it was all a dream. Seems lazy.

I posted a Cersei-centric analysis video in the books thread, but it's got some assumed spoilers (some stuff that's foreshadowed in the book but not in the show yet), so proceed at your own risk: http://forums.theskyiscrape.com/viewtop ... 05#p970005

I agree Hardhome is a top 3 episode. Several season 5 episodes are ranked correctly.

I'll have to give that a bit more thought; I understand why so many EP09s and EP10s are in the Top 10, but it was good to see some unexpected ones jump in there. I was just gushing about "Kissed By Fire" in here a few days ago, and I wish it had cracked the Top 10.

Yes, both Mallory and Jason love that episode.

I enjoy both; one thing I appreciate is how non-fan-y Nerdette can be at times.

The best part about Binge Mode is the reading of the sex scenes in GRRM's voice.
