Are people vinyl fetishists to the insane degree that they want a crummy sounding radio broadcast included just because, well, it's on vinyl?

No answer necessary, of course.

Its my preferred way to listen to music. Why is that so strange? I love collecting them, i love pulling them out and putting them on a table and letting the needle head downward. its fun. I enjoy it. Im not arguing sound quality, im just saying that I enjoy this process the best. And i do love the big artwork and all that jazz. Thats okay, spenno.

I understand wanting to listen to a studio album on vinyl, particularly one that was originally sequenced for release that way (eg. records that have a well thought out side A and B, etc.) It seems like a monumentally weird way to listen to a whole live show, though - changing countless vinyl sides and whatnot.

if nothing else i buy these so i can sell them for $10 more in 20 years

Unfortunately, last 7 tracks are digital only.

I wrote this in the header post when I wasn't clear that those last seven tracks were from a subpar source; knowing that, I'm still a bit disappointed, but I'm not hankering to have an FM broadcast on vinyl. I've never bought a bootleg LP and probably never will, so I'm not keen on shelling out good money for one from the official source.

If you have the multi-track master tapes, it's not going to sound crummy. If it was recorded on decent enough equipment, and is mixed and mastered well for vinyl, then it's going to sound pretty great...especially if that equipment is analog and the show was recorded to tape. When you have multi-track tapes, you can mix any of the instruments, vocals and mics just like you can when a band is in the studio.

I can't believe people buy these kinds of releases on vinyl, that still seems bizarre to me.

I wish they'd make them digital only, perhaps then we'd get more than one per year.

Vinyl is the least attractive bootleg format. Too bad the fanbase fetishizes vinyl.

Flipping a record or changing discs after just a few songs seems horrible. It must take you out of the flow.

oh for sure, I never understood live shows on vinyl. same with comedy albums.

See for me, I'll take the sound that a record provides over the inconvenience of flipping sides on an album, especially if it's an older album or one I know is mastered well. But I get where you're coming from; it's the same reason why I don't really like 7" releases (at least with an LP I have 25-30 minutes before I have to flip it over).

In your opinion. The fact that it's only available in mono should be enough of a reason not to complain.

BLG released his clearer transfer of the CSB source. It's nowhere near "bad." Some of you forget what bad sources sound like.

funny. I believe i bought the solider field cd bootleg set back in 1996 for approximately $75 at a store.

Now i can buy a vinyl pressing of it mixed and mastered from pearl jam for $60 with shipping.

Sure, but he's referring to the much-circulated mono radio broadcast that has been frequently commercially bootlegged over the years.

I don't think whether or not a good audience recording of a show exists should be the yardstick for selecting Vault releases, I'd rather they simply focus on great performances regardless of whether they're seen as desirable or rare shows.

(Of course, I'd get rid of vinyl releases altogether if I were in charge...)

Sure, but he's referring to the much-circulated mono radio broadcast that has been frequently commercially bootlegged over the years.

I bought probably the same cd bootleg set (the artwork liked like "Live at Leeds") when i first became a fan. The first and only non-official bootleg I've bought.

Really looking forward to the new multi-track portion of the show.

I bought it at DiscGoRound in Roseville around the same time. I remember it being $60.

I too don't crave live shows on vinyl - so many side changes disrupts the flow. For me the live recordings are a chance to relive/live what it may have been like to be there. In this regard the current Soldier Field matrix is actually pretty good IMO - put on a good set of headphones, close your eyes and re-live it.

I remember an interview with Brett Elliason a while back where he talked about the vault and that they had multi tracked from 94? With earlier shows only mini disc or something. My cynic wins out over my logic - I reckon this is an easy option and my preference would be for more shows in digital only.

Having said all of that - I hope those that buy this really enjoy it cos it should sound awesome. Such a cool show.

Eliason has tried to resist the current trend to mix albums as loudly as possible. He likes his mixes to have variation, but his product does have to stand up to other modern products. In the end, he hopes fans are successful at resisting the "louder is better" trend.

Eliason has been recording shows since 1993, though he doesn't necessarily have every show. He, the Ten Club, and the band are always looking at what can be modernized or released, but Tim B. did note that sometimes management limits the ideas put before the band so their excitement level always stays high for anything that is released.

The much hated loss of Rockin' in the Free World and Sonic Reducer from the Drop in the Park vinyl was attributed to space. Adding those shows would have required a second disc and driven up the price of the reissue.

I dont get the hatred when a show is release on vinyl...its a pretty cool show and a good collector´s item. If you dont want it because of the track list...then dont buy it, you can still listen to the excellent soundboard thats been around for more than a decade.
