I'm on my 3rd watch waiting on the new season. I'm so excited for this Sunday!! Gendry & Arya for King & Queen is my theory for how it will end if the White Walkers are defeated. I see Dany just as crazy as the Mad King watching back through it. Then again, much like Jon Snow in Seasons 3, 4 & 5, I know nothing.

My chief concerns are there will be too much fan service and characters will behave in irrational/uncharacteristic ways to move the story along.

That's a legit concern. It hasn't been too bad yet. We had glimpses of it in Season 6. Maybe we'll just get a touch of it.

My primary concerns:

Jon Snow acting like Ned but constantly succeeding instead of failing like Ned. He hasn't truly grown as a character on the show. Can that finally change?

The Iron Bank? They've been a player on the fringe but the bank should really began to squeeze King's Landing for the money they are owed. The Iron Bank's presence should be felt. One more item to put pressure on the major players.

Dany wanted to break the wheel in terms of totally dismantling the Westeros hierarchy. Now she just sounds like your classic, entitled, royal figurehead. Will they do more with that dismantling idea? That sounded a lot more interesting.

They didn't spend nearly enough time with Jon last season post-resurrection. He's the most compelling character to me as his growth has come slowly over time. There were glimpses of more depth there, but not enough. I want more of that.

Hopefully his true parentage is revealed to him, which leads to more screen time. He will be the major proponent for fighting the wights/white walkers, so something tells me he will have a strong presence this season.

I warched the episode last week where she's seducing gendry before putting the leeches on him, she didn't have that charm on then, why didn't she turn into an old hag?

i thought it was that one... what about when she's giving birth to the shadow stannis? I watched a lot of episodes during the marathon, so i probably mixed up the scenes, but do remember wondering during one of them that she didn't have that charm on and was still young, maybe it was the bathtub scene, i dunno

I kind of disagree here--I think maybe someone may have boo-boo'd and forgotten to put the necklace on her in the bath scene, but I'm sure the writers have known this was coming for a looooong time.

When Melisandre is putting the moves on Gendry (Season 3, Episode 8):

M: Your father chose your mother because the Lord of Light willed it. He willed it so you could be here right now with a power inside you you can't even begin to understand. And He brought me here to draw it from you and birth it into the world. We're both a part of His plan. He wants this for us. No, He demands this of us.
G: I don't understand. This-- this doesn't seem very religious.
M: According to whom? The Silent Sisters? With their stern looks, muzzled mouths, and dried-up cunts? What have their gods done for you? Hmm? When you pray to them, what's their answer? A god is real or he's not. You only need eyes to see.

When Melisandre is in the bath, sans necklace, talking to the Queen (Season 4, Episode 7):

M: When I looked into the flames this morning, the Lord spoke to me. He said, "Tonight, you will have your last good bath in a long while. Make it count." A joke. Not a very good one, I'm afraid...
QS: It was...humor isn't my strength.
M: That's because most jokes are lies and you're devoted to the truth.
QS: If they're lies, my lady, aren't they best avoided?
M: Not always. Most of these powders and potions are lies. Deceptions to make men think they witnessed our Lord's power. Once they step into his light, they will see the lie for what it was--a trick that lead them to the truth.

She's been throwing this "you can't see me" stuff at people for years. That scene with Selyse comes off to me as a total power play: "I ain't even wearing my necklace, and you're still so in my control that you can't see my true form."

There's also a throwaway comment from an early season about her being old, but I can't find it right now.
