This isn't Ed playing "by himself". Both Mike and Stone are playing in this one.

At the beginning he's by himself. It gets worse when Stone comes in to be honesttheplatypus wrote:mikejasond wrote:I finally found a video of Eddie playing Elderly Woman himself

Are you guys gonna deny though on the last page that that was an amazing Sometimes?
Its so in time and drives forward but not too fast. Its steady and punchy. Its great.
Daughter Once Elderly Woman are always so awkward but that Sometimes wasnt at all.

Jesus NOW I AM LISTENING TO THE ST. LOUIS MO 2014 SHOW AND STONE IS BUTCHERING LOWLIGHT WITH THAT SAME HEAVY-HANDED SLUGGISH GUITAR PLAYING.

It sounds like you may have an issue with Stone's acoustic guitar sound, which makes a little more sense than this ridiculousness.

Its not his SOUND, its the way he plays so clunkily and heavy-handedly while Eddie actually plays smoothly, steadily, and in rhythm.

MJD's crusade is bringing some life back to the place!
But anyways, Ed is a good guitar player. I like his playing a lot, and think he's far more creative than the typical "frontman with a guitar barely playing the open chords." But he is absolutely a sloppy player. I'd bet money Eddie would be the first person willing to admit that.
My problem with Ed more than his playing is his tone. It sounded better at some of the solo shows but in a band setting it can sound terrible at points.

Stone has a groove and natural way of playing that Ed can't even begin to touch.
Guitar work is more than just playing every note at the exact right spot every time you play it.

I bet MJD thought that Ed Sheeran's appearance on GoT last night was the best acting performance of the series.

Heres my thing with Stone. Especially on Elderly Woman. It should be ONE two three ONE two three....accenting the down beats and moving to them. That's how Eddie plays it. That's how Eddie plays Sometimes too. Aiming for the downbeats and steadily bouncing along.
That's not how Stone plays though.
Stone with his iron arm bangs out ONE TWO THREE ONE TWO THREE all at the same dynamic. Theres no flow at all. Its just....bad. When you accent the downbeats you feel a bounce like youre moving along drifting on a wave. When you play like Stone you feel like youre dragging through the mud and it absolutely kills ALL the songs where he has to do this, which includes the ones I mentioned. Daughter, Elderly Woman, Lowlight, Once.
You listen to Eddie when he plays and he does NOT have this problem.

I feel the opposite, Eddie is a little sloppy occasionally but the FEEL is good, Stone plays the right notes in a heavy clunky fashion which ruins the feel of the song even if the notes are right.run2death wrote:Stone has a groove and natural way of playing that Ed can't even begin to touch.

Id take Eddie's occasional note sloppiness over Stone's rhythmic sloppiness

Even the videos you post as proof are off, because they show all three guitars playing at the same time. Sure there will be great performances and some off from everyone in the band (esp. Ed on guitar), after hundreds of shows, but if you want to see the difference then Ed solo should be better as proof.
You do seem as if you have come to a final conclusion already. But I think you should reconsider.

He CAN play Do the Evolution and Brain of J well. Its whenever it gets slightly campfirey that he is horrendous. But honestly hearing Eddie on Sometimes and Corduroy I wonder if Eddie could do a better job on their other songs too if he tried.

They do, but the first verse of the song is pretty much all Stone on the first vid, and all Ed on the secondAnders wrote:Even the videos you post as proof are off, because they show all three guitars playing at the same time.
