Re: New Song: Lightning Bolt
I dont like matts choice of drumming for the verses. Barely any thought went into it, or it was just used so the fans can clap along!
But I am starting to enjoy the song. The melody is nice and I like the key change for the chorus...
MIkes solo is pretty interesting too. I like the Ebow approach...
There is a nice groove in this song.

Re: New Song: Lightning Bolt
Agreed on all accounts here. I'm only going to give it a couple of listens today, and that's all but I definitely hear some MFC and UK which is ok by me. The pre-chorus lift even had shades of GTF in it as it builds to the chorus. As for the chorus itself... sure he's not doing much lyrically, but it's a good build-up/release and works well. The best parts seems to be the end with more of the scream into the solo/jam, but it's harder to make out... I would probably like that part on the studio version. And yeah, no fade out please!VinylGuy wrote:i really liked it...i hear MFC , some RVM, a lot of UK....seems its going to be a really nice song. I think this was a reaction to his embarrassment of actually saying the song title out loud.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:I would say clearly, it is Eddie Vedderharmless wrote:Nope, he clearly says Lightning Bolt.E.H. Ruddock wrote:Doesn't Eddie say it's just called Lightning before the song?

They're going to start covering Lightnin' Hopkins by R.E.M. and Lightning Crashes by Live for a new Lightning Trilogy.
(I just thought about what a good cover of Lightnin' Hopkins Pearl Jam could have done like fifteen years ago and made myself sad)

And maybe that is why the chorus is the way it is, because he doesn't feel good about singing itharmless wrote:I had the same thought. I got some of that at the end of the song. Some of those LB's he was dropping sounded a little forced to these ears....Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:And maybe that is why the chorus is the way it is, because he doesn't feel good about singing itharmless wrote:I had the same thought. Possibly... but again, I've had those same thoughts before. The GTF chorus is delivered in the same shouty way, and those lyrics are no good either. HE'S. FLYING. Yeah, I like it. It's not fucking me up the way MYM did. Like, Doc, I'll reserve final judgement until I hear the studio version. But there's a lot I like about it after watching that video.

Wonder if this is the one Mike described as having a bit of "U2-ness" or however he put it.
