Best: Release, Alive, or Jeremy. I don't know that I can choose. All three are magical in their way - the later two in part for the way the audience is worked into the song, but that is a part of the live experience
Worst: Garden - it's a weaker song to begin with, and doesn't really generate any particularly striking energy to replace the lost atmosphere, which is the best part of the song
Lighting Bolt
Best: Lighting Bolt, for the addition of the full outro
Worst: Probably Getaway or MFS - two songs that, to my knowledge, they've never been able to pull off live
More later. I just wanted to give MJD something

So do it for whichever you choose, or both eras, its up to you how you interpret itwease wrote:For me, this exercise is dependent upon era. Jeremy USED to be a fucking monster track live. Now, not so much.

TEN
Best: Release. Best show opener, and one of my all time favorite songs. When performed well, it still gives me goose bumps. (Honorable Mention: Jeremy)
Worst: Porch. Modern performances that go on for ten minutes bore the hell out of me.
Vs.
Best: Animal. It's a thousand pound sledgehammer to the chest. (Honorable Mention: Glorified G)
Worst: Indifference. It's so boring and it completely sucks all energy out of the building.
Vitalogy
Best: Immortality.
Worst: Corduroy. The call and response bullshit really ruined Corduroy for me.
NoCode
Best: In My Tree from Live at the Garden.
Worst: Who You Are. Love the song with Jack, not so much with Matt.
I may finish this out later.

No, I mean reasons why you feel live versions of particular songs have degraded thru the tears.bodysnatcher wrote:i dunno, kinda like seeing historical before and after pictures of really beautiful buildings that have started to crumble over timewease wrote:Now that's an interesting idea. If they keep that dumbass singalong in the middle of Corduroy, that's hands down number one.

I refuse to believe the decline in Corduroy is worse than Given to Fly or Even Flow no matter how bad that singalong is

Re: Best and worst LIVE song from each album?
maybe we should make a live playlist with only songs that have singalong/call and response moments
that should narrow it down from 100+ songs to 95+ songs

The sing along was awful at the two shows I saw it at. One of them they opened with it. At least they had nowhere to go but up from there. That was the full Vs. show so at least there was thatmikejasond wrote:I refuse to believe the decline in Corduroy is worse than Given to Fly or Even Flow no matter how bad that singalong is

See, I can't stand to her Elderly Woman live anymore. I hate the arrangement and I hate how he tries to sing the end refrain an octave higher. Can't stand it anymore.
