Corduroy's got to be in the running for one of the songs played the most. They only skipped it once or twice in 2000, I think? And I was just joking with mikejasond about the youngling thing. I mean, I was defending the LB Tour a couple of months ago, so clearly, I have issues... That all crashed and burned on me once I started listening to older shows again.

Watching the two clips of Corduroy I noticed that Ed plays the verse chords differently. In 95 he plays the F chord on the high frets and then awkwardly jumps to the low E and G chords - but in 2010 he plays all verse chords at the low end of the neck. Looks much more comfortable on guitar in 2010 (as you would expect after more years). He never really looked like it suited him earlier on, he looked much better (and the band presented ether IMO) when he was just singing.

Not that this is of any consequence, but just kind of assumed that they would always play a song the same way.

They definitely sound different. This is going to put me in a bad category here on RM....I love jack on No Code and Yield. They are my two favorite records, however I don't care for listening to him in 1995. Songs feel plodding, instead of grooving.

I also like Ed's voice in 1994 and 1996 better than what he was trying to do in 1995.

Come on, Red Rocks? That may be more indicative of the '95 tour (which was a disaster for Ed vocally after the Pacific Rim), but at least pick a pre-San Francisco show such as this:

I never hated Jack, but do remember feeling shocked when I found out about Dave being fired. Up until that point I'd thought that any problems surrounding the band were due to outside factors like TM, MTV, etc.. Dave getting canned really showed how fragile the status of the band was during this time.

The early shows in the 95 tour find the band on fire - Eddie's voice sounded fantastic - Corduroy from that Washington show and Self Pollution sound amazing, with similar delivery to the album version.

Musically, the band were jamming hard with quality improvs - almost all shows had some new tunes or sounds the band were playing with, plus Jack brought some dynamics that really opened them up.

Mikes's solos were different, experimental and not just a flurry of notes like we get often now. Take RITFW from Melbourne as a great example of how he throws in some simple repetitive licks that pull the whole solo together - fantastic!

Overall, though I loved the power and energy of 93-94 era PJ, it was the rawness, improvs, dynamics and jams of the 95 tour that made the band for me.

This... the 1995-20-06 red rocks show has one of the most creative main sets ever.
1995-21-02 Osaka has an awesome version of porch and some seriously tight aggressive playing.
1995-07-09 Milwaukee, Little Wing/Maggot Brain & porch have some of mikes best playing ever.
1995-11-07 San Diego great end to an up and down year of touring for the band, Ed's voice is on point here.
