Re: RIP Chester Bennington
Yeah, I was being a bit of an asshole about it. But I haven't liked Linkin Park since like freshman year of high school, they aged badly in my opinion and I really hated their stuff from Minutes to Midnight onward. I've never even listened to anything after Thousand Suns, and that was a horrible attempt at a high concept record with a complete style change for the worse. Like, nu metal was not good, but trying that Kid A sort of electronic stuff was terrible for this band.
It does suck that Chester took his own life and I'm not going to make any more jokes about it, but Linkin Park was always like the "poster boy" for manufactured, calculated over the top angst in disposable nu metal and it was really shocking to learn there was actual substance behind any of that.

Absolutely. I was never a die-hard fan either but I will admit I played my share of Hybrid Theory and Meteora isn high school. To this day, Breaking the Habit is still an excellent song.whygodeepaz wrote:I wasn't really a die-hard Linkin Park fan, but I absolutely respected the music that they made. Plus Hybrid Theory was one of those albums that was literally everywhere my sophomore and junior years of high school.
Also he apparently had admitting to thinking about committing suicide due to abuse he suffered as a child (this article from RS goes a little bit more into that: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/ ... 41-w493387).
Feel terrible for his wife and kids. Sorry for any fans on here. He always seemed like a decent enough person and let's admit it he did a fine job playing w/ STP. Sure everyone wanted Scott but they guy just couldn't get his shit together. Seems Chester (unlike Scott who wore it all on his sleeve) had more issues than he let on. RIP to another gone way, way too soon

The first two albums were decent and I thought they were good live
I feel bad, they were supposed to play locally next sun with blink and a bunch of friends were pumped about seeing them

This whole thing is sad but it's weird how people feel obligated to say 'such and such was an alright song' ect. The music wasn't any good. Don't disrespect Chester with your pity likes.

Re: RIP Chester Bennington
Other than the fact that we all know of Chester because of his music, that should have little to do with how we feel about his death.
To me, when any person I know of takes their own life it is disturbing and sad. It becomes sadder when that person is relatively young and healthy. It gets worse when you know a spouse is left behind, and then pretty devastating when there are six kids that lose their parent. My heart hurts most for those that are left to pick up the pieces. It also hurts to imagine the kind of distress and despair that must have been haunting the person that willingly ends their own life. That kind of sadness resonates within me. I guess it's just having empathy for those that struggle through life. That is why I find stupid comments (especially on the day of someone's death) to be in poor taste. At least give it some time for those that feel for these people to express that without being bombarded with with lame attempts at being edgy or funny. I'm not saying that anyone needs to think the way I do about this stuff, but at least respect the dead and those that do care enough to hold the jokes for a day or two.
For what it's worth, I have probably only heard a handful of LP songs in my life. I never liked NuMetal or whatever it's called, and I never really gave much thought to LP. I did think that Chester filled in more than admirably in STP. But none of that really matters in a situation like this.
By the way, Chester was apparently the God Father to CC's son, Christopher. I can't imagine being that kid right now.
