Who owns DC?

It's probably a really good time to buy their shares.

Disneys shares were way down then they bought Lucasfilm and they shot up.

Time-Warner owns it. Warner Bros. bought it back in the 70s.

I read an article like this and I think about the narrative that unreasonable studio interference is the reason deals with various directors fall apart and wonder if maybe studio interference is a good thing. Wonder Woman vs Drug dealers?

Why Whedon’s “Wonder Woman” Fell Apart

We’re three entries into the blossoming DC Comics Extended Universe initiative, and it’s the next entry that has some people the most excited – “Wonder Woman”.

Marking the character’s first solo film on the big screen, there’s excitement to see what direction filmmaker Patty Jenkins and her crew will take with the character.

Over a decade ago, Warners was working on a different attempt at a “Wonder Woman” film – one that “Buffy” creator and “The Avengers” director Joss Whedon was attached to. Speaking with Empire this week, Whedon reflected on why his project fell apart before it ever got off the ground:

“I worked really hard on that movie and it meant a lot [to me], but I don’t know if what I was trying to do would fit in with what [the studio’s] vision is. I had a take on the film that, well, nobody liked… We just saw different movies, and at the price range this kind of movie hangs in, that’s never gonna work.”

Whedon’s version at the time was to have been set in modern day and featured Diana Prince leaving her home of Themyscira with the character’s comic book love interest Steve Trevor to deal with real-world problems like drug dealers.

The story is a part of Empire’s feature story on the new film which includes a bunch of first look photos. Those pictures have been scanned in and can be seen below. “Wonder Woman” opens in theaters on June 2nd.

Interfering is one thing. Different takes on the character is another. Whedon's idea sounds stupid on its face, to me. I'm glad the studio didn't go for his pitch.

But WB clearly has a problem letting their artists do their thing once the preliminary pitch stuff is over. And that's a much bigger problem. That's what we're seeing happen with DC right now.

You know, I wish entertainment rules applied the same way everywhere else. Hard to explain, but the way they flaunt contract law, negotiations, and accounting is just obscene.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Now that Affleck is out I'd like to see WB bring in a transgender Batman.
