True dramatic irony, then--the speaker doesn't realize it, but it's plain to the audience.

With these two new ones, I actually feel like, for once, Mike was pretty spot on in his descriptions; this is kind of what I think 'a logical extension of Backspacer' would sound like. There's some differences and added wrinkles, but I don't think it's too much of a stretch to see this our Future Days on that record.

At this point I've decided I like this song. It's comparable to UK, but it doesn't have that damned "Nothing left" part in which the listener realises the songwriter had nothing left at that point. Sure, it has the end jam that goes nowhere, but hopefully it will on the album and they've just not replicated that live yet. It's more likely that they've cut the end jam off. My main worry now is that this song's intro will be exactly the same as UK and Wishlist: that palm muted guitar. Matt's drums are boring here to begin with as well, just going 1, 2, 3, 4 on the bass drum along with Ed. But I'm hoping that's different on the album too, because he starts other songs the same way live, Corduroy for example. He intros that in the most boring way possible.

In typical Pearl Jam fashion, the best part of this song is the middle 8 / bridge. If they wrote songs like they write bridges, they might be able to replicate Yield. Yield is basically the ideal blueprint for a lot of the new material.

Still hate the verses, they drag the song way down, still like everything else.

I dunno about sloppy but ed is definitely giving mike a look near the end . It's probably a 'where's my damn ebow mccready' look. It's always the ebow.

I wish Mike and Stone would give him the "We're the fucking guitarists" look sometimes.

Nope. I don't enjoy generic jams. If they want to have a good jam session they have to get more creative guitarists (and a more creative drummer while they're at it). If the jam session lasts for that long on the album, we can only hope that Mike's solo is something interesting and that maybe there's some cool interplay between him and Stone.

Also, those lightning bolts going into the end sound too screechy AC/DC for me.

Soundtrack for a movie with Jennifer Aniston.

I imagine that will be played on the Letterman promotional appearance  .

Oh, shit, that's brilliant. If he AC/DC'd the delivery of every single call of "LIGHTNING BOLT!" I'd really dig the shit out of it.

Or maybe Brian Johnson makes a guest appearance on the album and ed is trying to duplicate it since Brian didn't wanna join them at wrigley in the rain
