Re: Bands that have fallen the farthest
Green Day changed from sounding fresh, to sounding very sterile. But I've never been a big fan.
From Foo Fighters I prefer The Colour and the Shape and There Is Nothing Left to Lose, while I personally feel that In Your Honor is a bit underrated, and the first s/t album is overrated, but that might just be me. Sonic Highways was awful.

I loved Happiness so much. Spiritual Machines was where it switched for me and I only like a couple songs. I know almost nothing of their later work.Anders wrote:OLP: Happiness and Spiritual Machines were both really good. Mostly awful after that.
Brand New: The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me was impossible to follow up, and they weren't even close with Daisy. Then disappeared.
DMB: Had Before These Crowded Streets, Crash and Under the Table and Dreaming. Not close since.
Blur: From Parklife through 13 was a great run.
Really this happens with nearly every band.

Re: Bands that have fallen the farthest
Mark Kozelek and his various ensembles have become increasingly mediocre to terrible. Add his grating personality to the mix and I have little interest anymore.
From 1992 (RHP's "Rollercoaster") to 2014 (SKM's "Benji"), I'd argue he was probably the best singer-songwriter in existence.

Kozelek came to mind for me too, Ghosts of the Great Highway is one of my all time favorites.

Comparing Interpol's Turn on the Bright Lights to El pintor is pretty depressing.

Same here. They were never better than just OK to me. I don't get the hype.run2death wrote:Never understood the love for the Chili Peppers.
Kiedis is easily one of the worst frontmen in rock history.

Difficult to explain this song. But it's just so pure and heartfelt. At the same time it's so very direct, like hardly any other song I have heard.

From this:

To this:

I know the bottom pic is 14 years old, but to me these two pics show the band at their peak and their absolute nadir
