Or they could lighten up on the state run programming aspect of NESN and tell the players to stop being babies.cutuphalfdead wrote:The Red Sox need to just do what most teams do and put more separation between the team and the broadcast/traveling media.numbers wrote:And I can just as easily see Eck saying F this and leaving NESN too.numbers wrote:I don't know Eck's contract situation, but I could easily see them canning him to appease the players here.cutuphalfdead wrote:It means Eck is less likely to travel for road games, which he already hated doing and generally didn't do. I think the Orsillo thing was more about them being completely oblivious to how fans felt about him...numbers wrote:Can't be worse than the Orsillo PR nightmare and they were fine with that.MattA75 wrote:I don't know if the Sox can afford the PR hit from doing that...numbers wrote:They're equally bad, and I do care about it because the likely outcome here is Eck gone from Sox broadcasts.

Well, that's true, but there was a window after they originally announced it where they could have backed off of it and instead they doubled down and talked about how much better OB was than Don.MattA75 wrote:I think the Orsillo thing was more about them being completely oblivious to how fans felt about him...numbers wrote:Can't be worse than the Orsillo PR nightmare and they were fine with that.MattA75 wrote:I don't know if the Sox can afford the PR hit from doing that...numbers wrote:They're equally bad, and I do care about it because the likely outcome here is Eck gone from Sox broadcasts.

Only in Boston can the Red Sox be in first place and the fan base wants to run the second best pitcher on the team out of town.

I don't have to be trolling or side with Price to see this situation as completely predictable.MattA75 wrote:Hopefully he's trolling...I can't imagine Phil is dumb enough to be on Price's side in that situationnumbers wrote:Do you know about the Price/Eck situation or are you just trolling?philpritchard wrote:Fun-loving guy who's loved by fans and teammates alike everywhere he's played signs with Red Sox. That pitcher is a sensitive dink with no balls whatsoever...it's hard enough to play in Boston with ONE of those descriptors, but with all three?cutuphalfdead wrote:Only in Boston can the Red Sox be in first place and the fan base wants to run the second best pitcher on the team out of town.

I don't have to want him gone to observe that he's a dickhead. He's obviously not going anywhere and he has pitched well, doesn't exonerate him.cutuphalfdead wrote:Only in Boston can the Red Sox be in first place and the fan base wants to run the second best pitcher on the team out of town.

Oh I don't disagree it was predictable...Price has always been a sensitive diva who already had bad blood in this town with the fanbase...I'm more surprised by his utter lack of self awareness in the Eckersley thing than anythingphilpritchard wrote:I don't have to be trolling or side with Price to see this situation as completely predictable.MattA75 wrote:Hopefully he's trolling...I can't imagine Phil is dumb enough to be on Price's side in that situationnumbers wrote:Do you know about the Price/Eck situation or are you just trolling?philpritchard wrote:Fun-loving guy who's loved by fans and teammates alike everywhere he's played signs with Red Sox. You know what's better than balls? I'd rather have Lester's 3.47 career ERA (and his 2.63 playoff ERA) over Price's 3.2 and 5.54cutuphalfdead wrote:You know what's better than balls? and no, I'm not over the Lester thing and I probably never will be...and neither should any other Red Sox fan

I think snarky comments always come off better when the person isn't ignorant to the topic, but that's just a personal preference.philpritchard wrote:I didn't insult you. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to have been ignorant about. Literally nothing I said suggested anyone was to blame other than Price.numbers wrote:I think snarky comments always come off better when the person isn't ignorant to the topic, but that's just a personal preference.philpritchard wrote:I didn't insult you. When he was in Detroit he got into with a long term writer, Lynn Henning. Lynn had said something that Price took exception to (which honestly, i cant remember if it was accurate or not- but i think it was primarily opinion). Price at that point basically implied he was going to not allow Lynn to do his job anymore. Price came off as a major douche then and none of this stuff with the media surprised me with him.

Re: Boston Red Sox Thread
Price is a dick to the media. There are stories from his time in Tampa too, it's nothing new and he's entirely to blame for it. He's an asshole in that regard.
My frustration with the Red Sox fanbase regarding Price is that it was preemptive vitriol hatred, coupled with a bad first half of his first year in Boston, and now even when he's pitching well people hate him and want him gone.
Sure, he wasn't great in the playoffs last year which played into his overall narrative, but people also forget that the entire fucking team was bad in the playoffs last year. We were swept in the first round for christ's sake.
He was fantastic down the stretch last year and no one cares, and so far this season he's had only 2 bad starts. Two starts ago he shut out the Yankees for 8 innings, a game which everyone was calling a huge test. But no one cares, the narrative on this guy right now is how should definitely opt out after next season and get out of town.
And the thing is, without Price on this staff, our pitching becomes VERY thin. With him pitching the way he is, and definitely if he can up it to what he did the second half of last year (and most of his career), it's a staff that can win. But no one in this town cares about that, they just want the guy who runs his mouth too much and likes to tweet go get out of town.
