Same. I didn't really start listening until Because the Times which I really like (and I actually only started listening to that because of the hype right Only By The Night came out and I really like that one too).

I don't get what people mean by 'vanilla' I guess. Happy?

I don't mind this song. It's okay.

I heard "Back Down South" for the first time at a bar. I have to admit it brought be back to their early records. It felt good hearing it.

And to be honest, I really have no problem with this band. Their music is still good. I think "Come Around Sundown" is a decent album.

For me it has more to do with their new fans since "Only By the Night". I followed the band since "Youth and young Manhood" when I read the Strokes were playing with them in 2003. And for six years I tried forcing my brothers and friends to listen to them and they thought the band was a joke, because of Caleb's distinct southern voice. And then "Sex on Fire" came out (take the word "sex" out and I bet you it wouldn't be as popular) and then all of sudden their huge. I was happy, but at the same time I wanted a pat on the back from friends, but I got none. Poor me.

Pants. I just replaced it with "Pants on Fire." Still good.

I meant vanilla in the sense of the past couple of records being passionless. Moody does not work for them like the raw energetic sound of their first 3 records, and shows from the same time period.

I realised earlier that my favourite songs by them are soft ballads: 'Milk', 'Day Old Blues' and 'Arizona'.

I saw these guys live when they supported PJ in about 2006, and Ed came out and sung/banged his tambourine on one of their songs.

They were great, plenty of energy, their sound was top notch, and they didn't seem to big for their boots. They seemed like they were just in it for the music, they were just enjoying themselves and were probably stoked they were supporting PJ and playing big venues.

Fast forward to a few years later (2010?) and I saw them at their own headline gig. This time they were rubbish, absolutely woeful. No interaction or connection with the audience, they were bland as fuck. It felt as though they were just going through the motions, like they were just earning some easy money and didn't give a shit about anything else.

I lost all respect for them that day.

I understand ya, but a song like "I Want You" is fantastic. I think it's the bass I love so much? I love the bass player all around.

That's a great song. And yes, nice bassline.

We saw them in like 2009 (I think) and there wasn't much audience interaction for us either. But hey, I never really minded too much about audience interaction, most of the time I just want to listen to music. SO yeah I was OK with that.

Yeah, their audience when i saw them in 2010 was awful, a bunch of dick head fat boys and dumb bitch women/girls who were just there because they thought the band was sexy. I thought they put on a great show even with out much interaction, but they crowd really took away from what was happening on stage

My experience exactly. I was surrounded by 16 year old girls and their mothers, who knew none of their old songs. I think my love for them died when these little girls started screaming out 'MY SEX IS ON FIRE!'

I really like this more every time I hear it. The lead vocal is great, and the way the second half of each verse lets go is awesome.

I'm also really liking 'Always The Same', the live song on Youtube.
