Why do you all think that so many other advanced democracies have voter ID laws? Surely they aren't all trying to suppress turnout?

Tell me how many advanced democracies have a large black or otherwise impoverished population that typically have difficulty obtaining ids and vote democrat

Also: Voting Rights Act was gutted.

Section 5 and most other special provisions apply to jurisdictions encompassed by the "coverage formula" prescribed in Section 4(b). The coverage formula was originally designed to encompass jurisdictions that engaged in egregious voting discrimination in 1965, and Congress updated the formula in 1970 and 1975. In Shelby County v. Holder (2013), the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the coverage formula as unconstitutional, reasoning that it was no longer responsive to current conditions.[11] The Court did not strike down Section 5, but without a coverage formula, Section 5 is unenforceable.[12]

The elephant in the room is Texas turning blue, which I think a lot of this push comes from. One of the big consequences of the Trump regime is the alienation of the Hispanic voting bloc, which largely despises him.

Can you see how people can perceive it's shady to not require ID in states with large numbers of non-citizens?

If larger turnout would result in higher votes for democrats, why not make voting compulsory? Would you be ok with that? i wouldn't.

I don't care much about how people perceive it anyway. That has little to do with the validity of requiring ID at a voting booth.

The parties' are always going to act in their self interest. They are trash and I don't form my opinions based on their platforms.
