Re: Boston Red Sox Thread
I don't think the majority of the fanbase thinks we can win anything in the playoffs, because of how soft this team is mentally/psychologically. And I think the general feeling is, "what the fuck good is making the playoffs if you're just gonna get smoked?" Right or wrong to feel that way, I think that's how a lot of people feel about this team right now. I think the only thing people get excited about is when Sale starts every 5th day.cutuphalfdead wrote:Price is a dick to the media. There are stories from his time in Tampa too, it's nothing new and he's entirely to blame for it. He's an asshole in that regard.
My frustration with the Red Sox fanbase regarding Price is that it was preemptive vitriol hatred, coupled with a bad first half of his first year in Boston, and now even when he's pitching well people hate him and want him gone.
Sure, he wasn't great in the playoffs last year which played into his overall narrative, but people also forget that the entire fucking team was bad in the playoffs last year. We were swept in the first round for christ's sake.
He was fantastic down the stretch last year and no one cares, and so far this season he's had only 2 bad starts. Two starts ago he shut out the Yankees for 8 innings, a game which everyone was calling a huge test. But no one cares, the narrative on this guy right now is how should definitely opt out after next season and get out of town.
And the thing is, without Price on this staff, our pitching becomes VERY thin. With him pitching the way he is, and definitely if he can up it to what he did the second half of last year (and most of his career), it's a staff that can win. But no one in this town cares about that, they just want the guy who runs his mouth too much and likes to tweet go get out of town.

I cant speak for others, but I am not calling for him to be shipped out of town, I'm just saying hes a dickhead and I really dont like him. As long as he pitches well I'm ok with him being on the team, just like I was ok with epic asshole Curt Schilling being on the team 10 years ago.cutuphalfdead wrote:Price is a dick to the media. I'm definitely in the camp that thinks all this stuff is a sign that this team is weak-minded and ill-suited to a playoff run, and last year is evidence of that.MattA75 wrote:I don't think the majority of the fanbase thinks we can win anything in the playoffs, because of how soft this team is mentally/psychologically. The problem for me is I'm surrounded by people who work in talk radio, aka hot take culture. And then I go out into the real world and hear people just parrot them.numbers wrote:I cant speak for others, but I am not calling for him to be shipped out of town, I'm just saying hes a dickhead and I really dont like him. I'm all for rolling the dice again with the addition of Sale.numbers wrote:I'm definitely in the camp that thinks all this stuff is a sign that this team is weak-minded and ill-suited to a playoff run, and last year is evidence of that.MattA75 wrote:I don't think the majority of the fanbase thinks we can win anything in the playoffs, because of how soft this team is mentally/psychologically. Obviously I want them to win, but I don't even think they are going to make the playoffs, let alone a series.

the only reason to have even a sliver of hope this year is Sale (and yes, that's a damn good reason)...but if no one else can figure out how to make a decent postseason start, Sale isn't going to mattercutuphalfdead wrote:They're in first place a week before the trade deadline and you don't think they're a playoff team? If I had to put money on it, I'd say no right now. Hopefully I'll be wrong.cutuphalfdead wrote:They're in first place a week before the trade deadline and you don't think they're a playoff team? For all the shit people talk about these guys they keep winning.

He has 12 wins. The lack of run support is greatly overstated at this point.numbers wrote:Also, Sale can't win games 0-0.MattA75 wrote:the only reason to have even a sliver of hope this year is Sale (and yes, that's a damn good reason)...but if no one else can figure out how to make a decent postseason start, Sale isn't going to mattercutuphalfdead wrote:They're in first place a week before the trade deadline and you don't think they're a playoff team? You're in first place, right? The Division Leaders are a vulnerable Indians team and a very green Astros team. The AL is a crapshoot this year, there's no perfect team and you have a young roster of position players and 3 Cy Young Winners in your rotation. Relax.

You know what I think this is? Your little brother syndrome to the Yankees. You see them surging a bit this year, about 2 years ahead of schedule, and getting so much national love because of Aaron Judge.
