For me, although I am very pessimistic on this team's chances, it's not even really about the success of the team. The crisis is that it's become apparent that the core of this team is a bunch of unlikeable douchebags that I'm going to have to stomach for the next however many years.@SkitchP wrote:numbers wrote:We're having a crisis right now, Skitch.
You're in first place, right? The Division Leaders are a vulnerable Indians team and a very green Astros team. The AL is a crapshoot this year, there's no perfect team and you have a young roster of position players and 3 Cy Young Winners in your rotation. Relax.

Justin Smoak has never caught a game, but he's a switch hitter, so that's a bonus.@SkitchP wrote:philpritchard wrote:Having offensive troubles? May I interest you in the best offensive first baseman in the league?
He's also a Left Handed hitting catcher and clubhouse leader!

It's a shame Sale isn't getting any run support. Can't win this game 0-0!Green Habit wrote:

To act like that hasn't happened more than a few times this year is asinine.cutuphalfdead wrote:It's a shame Sale isn't getting any run support. Can't win this game 0-0!Green Habit wrote:

So 1/3 of his starts they score 3 runs or less.

And if he makes 30 starts, and we lose each and every one of the starts where they score 2 or fewer (we actually win some of those though) he's a 20 win starter.

We're not talking about the expansion Mets, this team is supposed to have a good offense.

Re: Boston Red Sox Thread
The problem with the Sale trade was that it didn't make them a better team than last year, it just replaced Ortiz's bat with an equally dominant arm. I didn't think they would struggle this much, though. There are a lot of good bats in that lineup, but not having that one slugger in the middle seems to have hurt them a lot.

That's not problem with the Sale trade, it's a problem with the lack of an Encarnacion signing.

Re: Boston Red Sox Thread
Poorly worded, but that's what i meant. Boston was clearly one of the top teams in the league last year, and acquiring Sale would normally be a move to push that kind of team over the top, but in their case it ended up being more of a "keeping them afloat" type deal because they replaced Ortiz with Mitch Moreland.cutuphalfdead wrote:That's not problem with the Sale trade, it's a problem with the lack of an Encarnacion signing.
Not going after Edwin was primarily luxury tax driven, I assume?

Re: Boston Red Sox Thread
The talk around town at the time was that the Red Sox weren't even interested because they didn't want to have to sign a lengthy contract to get him, which I pretty much agreed with. But then he signs a three year deal with Cleveland that we easily could have topped. It's infuriating.philpritchard wrote:Not going after Edwin was primarily luxury tax driven, I assume?

Any kind of payroll limitations will always be frustrating, especially for a team that's just a piece or two away. Owners are the worst.cutuphalfdead wrote:But yeah, it was probably luxury tax reasons. Which to me is equally infuriating.

So, now Price is faking an injury to avoid appearing at Fenway. Awesome.
