You're in first place, right? The Division Leaders are a vulnerable Indians team and a very green Astros team. The AL is a crapshoot this year, there's no perfect team and you have a young roster of position players and 3 Cy Young Winners in your rotation. Relax.

For me, although I am very pessimistic on this team's chances, it's not even really about the success of the team. The crisis is that it's become apparent that the core of this team is a bunch of unlikeable douchebags that I'm going to have to stomach for the next however many years.

The problem with the Sale trade was that it didn't make them a better team than last year, it just replaced Ortiz's bat with an equally dominant arm. I didn't think they would struggle this much, though. There are a lot of good bats in that lineup, but not having that one slugger in the middle seems to have hurt them a lot.

Poorly worded, but that's what i meant. Boston was clearly one of the top teams in the league last year, and acquiring Sale would normally be a move to push that kind of team over the top, but in their case it ended up being more of a "keeping them afloat" type deal because they replaced Ortiz with Mitch Moreland.

The talk around town at the time was that the Red Sox weren't even interested because they didn't want to have to sign a lengthy contract to get him, which I pretty much agreed with. But then he signs a three year deal with Cleveland that we easily could have topped. It's infuriating.

Any kind of payroll limitations will always be frustrating, especially for a team that's just a piece or two away. Owners are the worst.
