I think the Red Sox are going to retire Clemens' number sometime within the next ten years. I think it's obvious with how much they have him in the booth whenever he's in town that they like him (he does seem like a personable guy), and I think the hometown crowd doesn't care about his history with PEDs. No one's worn #21 in twenty-one years, and I think they'll wait to do it when there's an obvious lull in other retired numbers.

I have to think they'll retire Pedroia's number eventually, but I don't think there are any other obvious ones hanging out there. Tek's number is on the shelf only in case he ever manages so he can just wear it again.

I hope they retire Clemens number but I think they are waiting to see if he can get into the HOF first so they don't have to break tradition.

Variteks number should not be retired, he doesn't even come close to meeting the standard.

Well, like I said, I think they are keeping the number inactive so that if he ever becomes the manager, he can wear it again.

They already made an exception for Pesky, and technically for Papi, too.

Dave Roberts should have his number retired before Tek.

Clemens and Pedroia are the only outstanding ones in my opinion.

This actually just got me starting to formulate a case for retiring Francona's.

He is clearly the greatest manager in the history of the franchise, I am all in on this now, 47 should be retired.

I was writing a post about Francona as you guys both posted. When you look at the numbers, it gets stronger: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_B ... x_managers
