What movies are you watching?

One time I saw Hitchcock's Rope in 140 mm at a local ice house.

I made plans to see Dunkirk in 70mm before I realized that 70mm-IMAX was a thing. Oh well. I would've had to go all the way into the city (Lincoln Center) for that, so that would've been an expense/hassle I don't need right now.

The movie was fine. I was into it while I was there, but nothing really stuck with me and got me thinking (which I think it tried to do).

I'm working on seeing through all the movies that have been on the IMDB top 250 list. Have got some movies that were there in the 90s left. Koyaanisqatsi was something else. Didn't like Until the End of the World by Wim Wenders.

Probably top five for me.

This was my first time seeing it. Because I'm the worst. My wife's seen it before. When it was over we discussed it and I said, "This is absolutely, without a doubt, even after only one viewing one of the top 10 movies I've ever seen. Probably top 5."

Are you a big Spike Lee fan? What are some other works of his you've really enjoyed (or disliked)?

I've only seen a few of his films. I love Summer of Sam and 25th Hour. I didn't really care of for Miracle at St. Anna.

Spike Lee is a one-hit wonder. I like him as a stylist and he's a made a handful of other good films, but DTRT is head-and-shoulders above the rest.

i've only seen about half his work, but dtrt is my favorite easily...i did really enjoy clockers and 25th hour though

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

DTRT is easily the best of his work that I've seen. Without a doubt.

But 25th Hour and Summer of Sam are both accomplished and powerful films that I adore and watch frequently. Even if those were his best, I'd still call him one of the most interesting and underrated American film makers out there. The fact that he made something as beautiful, operatic, theatrical, cinematic, musical, profound, progressive, charged, social, and active as Do The Right Thing just proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's a special talent that people really should be talking much more about.
