This sounds awesome! And SP definitely should be included. I agree that 1989-1996 would be the ideal years if the numbers work out. Blind Melon could be included, maybe Dinosaur Jr., the Foo Fighters first album. Maybe Jane's Addiction and RHCP? I'm just spitballing. Anyway, super excited for this!

Just make it a "90s rock tournament".

I don't think Pearl Jam are even a "grunge" band.

I thought grunge was 1991-1996. Down On The Upside, No Code, Tiny Music all marking the end of an era. Nothing happened in 97. 96 Even had From The Muddy Banks Of Wiskah as a fairly large success, Alice In Chains Unplugged, the Hype album, and possibly the best Screaming Trees album, and their last of that era.

96 was also the Mellon Collie world tour. So really all six bands in this contest had releases with success in 1996.

Tournament 1 is 91 - 95.
Tournament 2 is 96 - 2000.
Tournament 3 is 2000 - 2010.
Tournament 4 is 2010 - 2017.

Tournament 5 is the top half qualifiers against each other.
Tournament 6 is the bottom half qualifiers against each other.
Tournament 7 is the top middle qualifiers against each other.
Tournament 8 is the bottom quarter and top quarter qualifiers against each other.

Tournament 9 is the winners of tournaments 5 through 8 against each other.

Tournament 10 is a recruitment drive for new members because everyone will have left the board.

Stip posted this:

"Like most of us of a certain age, grunge was my formative musical experience, and everything resonated incredibly powerfully. Even my lesser lights in the big 6 (I always included STP and the Pumpkins-it feels right spiritually, if not geographically) were still tremendous talents, and I just couldn't believe that there was this much talent coming out of this one moment in time. 1991-1996 saw Ten, Nevermind, Gish, Badmotorfinger, Core, Dirt, Vs, Siamese Dream, In Utero, Jar of Flies, Vitalogy, Purple, Mellon Collie…, No Code, Tiny Music…, Down on the Upside. 6 bands. 5 years. 16 classic albums. Four genre-defining singers coming out of the same god damned town. What a time to find yourself first opening up to music. This became the benchmark against which we all came to measure what music could do. Even if we left these songs behind we expected new music to make us feel the same way."
