Best of Grunge Tournament 1991-1996

Having said that, if this bracket can somehow support the 300+ songs it would take to add the 3 96 albums plus the aeroplane set I can just add everything in.

It'd be worthwhile in my mind to include all that, but if it's too much work after already doing the major legwork you've done then probably not. What do I know, though? I'm by no means a tournament regular, though I do like them a lot.

It really comes down to what the online bracket makers can support. My work was whittling down to 256 songs. But I'm not starting this for about 3 weeks, so there's plenty of time to debate and see if we land on something better and workable.

If you do stick to an absolute 256 songs, I still think you should fit DotU in somehow. Even of the 96 albums (and No Code is my favorite all time album), DotU is the one that would feel most wrong if it was left out here. It just fits in perfectly with that era.

I respect the struggle, Stip. Which is why, ultimately, I don't care. I'm just venting. If there's a way to include them all, I'd love that to happen. But with a hard 256 line, I think you've removed the "correct" tracks. Meaning, you've removed the tracks that really don't stand much of a chance anyway. Like I said, I get it. But I also hate it. Still... all things being equal, you've made good decisions on what to exclude. I just wish we didn't have to exclude anything.

Or even... and god help me for even saying this because it makes me want to vomit but... Hole? I mean I detest Courtney Love. But Live Through This is probably a pretty significant "grunge" record released in the appropriate time frame. God, I hate that I just posted that.

If nothing else, we should expand this to include records released in 1989. Bleach, Temple of the Dog, Green River, the Mother Love Bone stuff... all of that should really be included in a "best of" grunge tournament.

i suspect most of us couldnt even name more than 2 mudhoney songs, which is part of the reason

I'd like this to be limited to the bands that dominated the grunge discussion of the era, and bands whose discographies we are all largely familiar with. Even if we can't come up with a musical definition to satisfy the pedants, when people talked about grunge during this period this is what they meant.

Perhaps we could have a prelim Smashing Pumpkins tournament, to cut those songs in half. They seem to outnumber the other bands. Would make room for 96.
