Worst decision of the prequel trilogy. I always chose to think of it as his mother lying.wease wrote:I'm opposed to on its face, ass, cock, titties, twat and anywhere else you want to name. If Rey is random, and the Skywalkers all die. They really should not make eps 10-12 imo. More SW yes, but call it something else.stip wrote:E.H. I suspect Rey and whoever survives will then get a new trilogy after this one. This story will end the skywalker 9 arc saga. It's got three damn skywalkers in it. How many more does it need?

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017)
Exactly. He said that to justify his prequels. He wasn't saying that about his "new" trilogy, tough. He wasn't saying 7-9 would be "about Anakin." By that point he'd switched his rhetoric to "it's about The Skywalker Family!"stip wrote:Lucas says a lot of thingsAnders wrote:Yes, but this saga isn't about the jedi in general. Lucas has said many times that Star Wars is the story of Anakin Skywalker.E.H. Ruddock wrote:Also, you do realize that before Order 66 there were hundreds, maybe more, Jedi, right? And the Force isn't restricted to the Skywalker family.Anders wrote:Yoda was tied to Luke through Anakin and Obi-Wan. If Rey is just a girl that is strong with the force, and with no backstory, that seems terribly disappointing to me.durdencommatyler wrote:What do you mean? Exactly how she's fit in so far. She's someone who is exceptionally strong in the Force and gets taught by Luke Skywalker, that's how. It doesn't need to be any more complicated than that. She meets Luke. Was Yoda related to Luke? No, and he didn't need to be. Rey learns what she can from a strong Force user who has been through a lot of shit. He's "the chosen one" in the eyes of Obi-Wan Kenobi. That's no small thing. She learns from him, maybe fights with him, and then carries on his legacy and the legacy of the Force (if not the legacy of the Jedi specifically). That's a great story. In no way does it require her to be a Skywalker or a Kenobi or a Palpatine.Anders wrote:Then how does she fit into the overall nine episode story?durdencommatyler wrote:My strong preference, actually, would be for Rey to remain completely unrelated to anyone we know so far. If I was in charge, that's what I'd be doing. But I'm not in charge.E.H. Ruddock wrote:I'm not saying random, but would be much more interesting if she could be say, Obi-wan and Satine's granddaughter or something like that. Or tie her to lesser known characters from books/shows to then have an outlet for future stories for them. If Disney wanted to, they could keep telling stories FOREVER in the time period of TPM - Episode IX.Anders wrote:The opposite for me. If the characters are just random people, it will severely weaken the story.E.H. Ruddock wrote:To be clear, her being Luke's daughter is the last thing I want. I think it would just make the whole "new" storyline so much more stale.Anders wrote:True. Hope they work that in there in an appropriate way. Snoke killed her.E.H. Lucas was making shit up as he went along. Which is totally fine. I have no problem with that. People should not use that as a crutch or an excuse, though.

This kind of thinking makes absolutely no sense to me. If that's really how people feel, then I agree. I just had a thought on why midichlorians are so stupid. They served to quantify the Force. That's the only reason he introduced them. As a way of explaining just how powerful Anakin is. It certainly could've been done differently and without midichlorians, but I realized why they are so stupid. Or another reason, anyway. If midichlorians are simply a substance found in blood, then you could take the blood and seperate everything else out, then make anyone you wanted strong in the Force by simply injecting them with it. Like a virus or something.

Midi-chlorians is the second most stupid idea. Take away that whole virgin/midi-chlorian scene, make Jar-Jar less annoying (No winning fights with luck), make the love story a little more vibrant, and don't do the stupid factory and Colosseum scene, and I think people would have a lot less issues with those movies.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017)
Some of the peripheral material has implied that the value/importance of midichlorians was a pet project of Qui-Gon's. That he believed in the pseudo-science of midichlorians but none of the other Force Masters did. I kind of like that take. I also like the idea that midichlorians are a "dark side" thing. Darth Plagueis is able to manipulate the Force in an unnatural way by exploiting midichlorians or implanting them or whatever. That's a cool fucking idea and maintains all the things we love about the Force as a mystical property.wease wrote:I just had a thought on why midichlorians are so stupid. Virgin birth I can grant you. But Supremely powerful? Where are there any parallels outside of the virgin birth? And again the Virgin birth isn't divine with Anakin like it is with Jesus. It's really not comparable at all.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017)
But did you see how all of that played out? How does anything else in Anakin's arc mirror that of Jesus? He clearly isn't all powerful. Look at what Palpatine is able to do to him. He isn't supreme. And he isn't all powerful. In fact, he proves to be the opposite time and time again. His midichlorian count is irrelevant. Which is why I think it's cool to think that Qui-Gon is off the rails with this pseudo-science stuff.wease wrote:The Jedi say Anakin has the highest midichlorian count ever. The Jedi were wrong. Obi-Wan admits in Rebels that he believes Luke is the chosen one, not Anakin. No Messiah parallel.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017)
I agree with DCT here. The virgin birth was ridiculous, if we are to believe it was true. But he was no messiah. Although people have argued that he fulfilled the prophecy. Bringing balance to the force by wiping out both sides. Balance between good and evil.
