Re: New Song: Lightning Bolt
I'm still a bit underwhelmed so far....I like them. I think MYM is ok, it's a better effort at this type of punk than Olé. LB sounds promising, but 'Future Days' sound kind dull.
As a group of three I think I'm equally impressed at the first batch of three Ive heard from backspacer.
Got Some, Fixer, Supersonic = MYM, Future Days, Lightning Bolt
But:
Worldwide Suicide, Gone, Severed Hand >> MYM, Future Days, Lightning Bolt
oh and in comparison:
I am Mine, Save You, Bushleager >>>>>> MYM, Future Days, Lightning Bolt

Re: New Song: Lightning Bolt
interesting comparison.
It's a hard call for me.
MYM, Ligthning Bolt, Future Days: Really like, like, unsure of
Fixer, Got Some, Supersonic: loved, liked, really disliked.
World Wide Suicide and Gone: Top 5 song and a demo I could care less about (that was improved on the record)
I am Mine and Save You together are a stronger pairing than any two songs on this list. I have no idea what the third Riot Act song I heard was. You Are, I think.
Actually thinking back to first impressions, Save You was disappointing. I no longer think that, but I did at the time. Not a good first impression.

Re: New Song: Lightning Bolt
I thought Backspacers wasnt BOBs best work. but I thought he did a great job with "unthought known". initially i didnt think much of the song after hearing eds solo version.
But the recorded version is great IMHO!!
If he can do the same with "lightning bolt" it will sound awesome.

Why is there such an incessant need to use "IMHO" ?

i usually do like songs that build, but i like them when that seems like it was just where the music wanted to go, something like UK seems like it builds just for the sake of having a song that builds, and i think that is why i was turned off of it for a good while at first, but i do like it now.Birds in Hell wrote:People sure seem to love songs that "build", huh?

Re: New Song: Lightning Bolt
I think that LB seems to have more intention, and when it builds it seems to want to build. So I like that. The nothing left bit on UK is pointless and deflates the song like a slashed tire.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:i usually do like songs that build, but i like them when that seems like it was just where the music wanted to go, something like UK seems like it builds just for the sake of having a song that builds, and i think that is why i was turned off of it for a good while at first, but i do like it now.Birds in Hell wrote:People sure seem to love songs that "build", huh?

Na, I understand that. There's not a particularly dramatic build in this song, but I think there is a progression and the transitions work from section to section. Not so with Unthought Known, which is 2/3 of a song and then... nothing left.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:i havent listened to LB enough to really remember itharmless wrote:I think that LB seems to have more intention, and when it builds it seems to want to build. In a general sense, I don't think I do. It so often strikes me as kind of...artificial.i dont think of it as a song that builds the way that a lot do where they start out pretty slow and or quiet and build into something fast and or louder, ive only listened to it 3 times and i think thats enough till i get the album version to listen to. anyway, most songs have ups and downs but for me i dont classify them as a song that builds unless it is somehting like Present Tense, or Unthought known ( even though i think that one is forced ), if it starts out pretty loud or fast and just keeps on going up then i usually dont include those songs

Re: New Song: Lightning Bolt
i really like what i have heard from it so far, even the chorus has seemed better on each listen, but i have put away MYM ( though it is on the Ipod and i wont skip it if it comes up on shuffle ) so i dont get worn out on it by October, im not planning on listening to LB because i think i have a good feel for it after a few listened and again i dont wanna wear it out, and im not sure on FD, i may give that a couple of more listens, but i will listen to anything that becomes available before the album comes out, just not a whole lot. im not gonna be part of the no leak club this time( sorry guys ) but im also not gonna give the songs a ton of time, i get a bit of a feel for the songs then put them away till i can hear them the right way.harmless wrote:Na, I understand that. I tentatively joined the No Leak Club when I had more confidence in what we might be getting. SO yeah, that was premature. I'm pretty interested in knowing whether I should put down the little hope I still have.

Re: New Song: Lightning Bolt
i dont really have any worries we are gonna get a good album, it may not be exactly what i want from them, but they always put out good stuff, but its been too long since we have had a new album for me to avoid leaks, if it had just been 2 years or so then i could probably do it again, but after for years i just wanna hear new stuff. but dont give up hope, they may have a song or 2 that you dont love, but it will be a pretty good album, i know it.harmless wrote:I tentatively joined the No Leak Club when I had more confidence in what we might be getting. Stone does start the song off so it is likely stone did write the music for this song.

im probably forgetting a bunch, but other then starting the song with a guitar then putting it down and picking it back up for the end of severed hand, are there any other songs that Ed plays guitar on but not through the whole song?Birds in Hell wrote:This wouldn't surprise me.Strat wrote:Stone does start the song off so it is likely stone did write the music for this song.
