Anders, I want you to think very carefully about your answer to my next question. How you answer could impact your experience here on RM.

Ok, ready? How do you feel about the following two movies:

Hudson Hawk
The Beastmaster
Clouuuuds Rolll byyy...BANG BANG BANG BANG

When I was in my last year of primary school (1991), me and my classmates (at least the guys) went crazy over Hudson Hawk. I mean we LOVED it. I saw it a few years ago, and I'm afraid I didn't feel anything special. It was an all right movie. I've always liked Bruce Willis though.

He-Man was my main man as a 6-7 year old (1985-86), and The Bestmaster cover has a similar vibe. But I can't really remember seeing it. Probably saw it in the 80s.

It's less than one percent of the movies I've rated, and probably about 0,5% of the movies I've seen. Not a lot.

I've got: 1s 1%, 2s 2%, 3s 4%, 4s 8%, 5s 15%, 6s 27%, 7s 25%, 8s 12%, 9s 4%, 10s 1%. It's quite logical really. You often choose to see movies you will like, so there are probably a lot more bad movies out there.

Shawshank is a great movie. It's not in my top 10. Probably top 25, though. But it's still great. Great script. Great characters. Memorable. Quotable. Rewatchable. Engaging. Sentimental. Emotional. Strong performances. Good direction.

I totally get why it's a beloved classic. I also totally get why some think it's really overrated. I like it. But it's not a movie I'm going to go to the mattresses over.

Try not to give perfect 10 ratings on the way to the parking lot!!!

And I'm not sure why Mulholland Drive came up in this discussion with Shawshank. But MD is vastly superior in every way.

I said I didn't like Shawshank that much, and Anders remembered I had said I liked Mulholland a lot.

Oh boy...I don't think we're going to agree on much when it comes to movies.

No worries. A lot of different things to choose from in that list though. European movies, East Asian movies, American classics, Hitchcock, Kubrick, Monthy Python, Star Wars, war movies, epics, etc.

There are some great movies in there, sure, but most of it reads like a list of the most overrated movies ever.

I know the feeling, I've watched many movies I felt were overrated. However, I genuinely had a great time watching these movies, and often more than once. I think they all deserve the praise, success and awards they have achieved. What would your top 50 list look like?

For a hot second I thought Fight Club wasn't gonna make the cut and I was gonna lose my shit!

Still, I didn't see any Lynch on there. Did I miss it? Or do you need to reevaluate a few things?

Should I spend today making an account and rating movies on imdb?
