Not really. There was a lot of talk fof it lately, and I have some people I know that keep talking about it. I thought it was an interesting comparison.durdencommatyler wrote:Ah.theplatypus wrote:I said I didn't like Shawshank that much, and Anders remembered I had said I liked Mulholland a lot.durdencommatyler wrote:And I'm not sure why Mulholland Drive came up in this discussion with Shawshank. LV, I don't remember seeing Death and the Maiden on your list before. Is that a recent addition or did I just miss it previously?

It's good too, but I feel it is a lot more niche and elitist based. Some genres will always be rated insanely high, and things like Pearl Jam fairly low. IMDB is not like that at all.LoathedVermin72 wrote:rateyourmusic.com is soooooo much better than IMDb.

RYM is definitely annoyingly elitist, but the general taste there is waaaaaaay better than IMDb, which is a Rotten Tomatoes-esque cesspool.Anders wrote:It's good too, but I feel it is a lot more niche and elitist based. Not crazy about Lynch, but I do like a fair bit of his work, especially Twin Peaks. But I also highly rate The Elephant Man, Dune, Blue Velvet and The Straight Story.durdencommatyler wrote:For a hot second I thought Fight Club wasn't gonna make the cut and I was gonna lose my shit!Anders wrote:I know the feeling, I've watched many movies I felt were overrated. Still, I didn't see any Lynch on there. Did I miss it? Or do you need to reevaluate a few things?

Re: Post Random Movie-Related Thoughts You Have
I think I only have 3 perfect 10 movies.
"The Last Picture Show"
"Taxi Driver"
"Grave of the Fireflies"
"Requiem for a Dream," "Children of Men," "Repulsion" and "Bronson" are probably 9.5s.

Re: Post Random Movie-Related Thoughts You Have
I think you've got five movies from my list, and six I considered. Another 20 or so that I like, and some that I don't. A few I probably haven't seen.
While not on my list, movies like Dumb and Dumber, Holy Grail, Die Hard and Starship Troopers are movies I've always highly enjoyed.

Casablanca, 12 Angry Men and The Godfather Part 2 are the most surprising to me. Bogart should have gotten an oscar for In A Lonely Place.
