I always go kinda crazy during the Barnes & Noble Criterion sales. This time, I think my final haul is going to be:
Blowup
La notte
Roma
Night and the City
The Seventh Seal
Stalker
Ghost World
L'eclisse
L'argent

I like looking at the movies, but I dont really see the point of buying discs anymore. The only way I can see that being worth the cash is if I get wind that one of my favorite movies is about to go out of print, and it's future availability is murky.

Why isn't it worth it? If I like the movie and plan on watching it in the future, a disc is still going to be the best way to watch it for a long time. The Argonaut wrote:I like looking at the movies, but I dont really see the point of buying discs anymore. Ha ha Mission to Mars is one of the worst movies ever made. It fails in every single aspect of filmmaking.

It's one of the most beautifully directed (and scored) movies I've ever seen. And thematically it hits a very deep personal nerve for me.BurtReynolds wrote:Ha ha Mission to Mars is one of the worst movies ever made. It fails in every single aspect of filmmaking.

Video compression is getting better and better. It's just a matter of time before we're all just streaming 4K movies.

This already exists. Compression artifacting still means it isn't as good as discs, though.run2death wrote:Video compression is getting better and better. It's just a matter of time before we're all just streaming 4K movies.

Re: Post Random Movie-Related Thoughts You Have
I posted a list of my top 100 movies in some thread a while back. It was an alphabetical list. I have no idea if I could actually whittle it down to 25 and then rank them. That would be super difficult.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
