Wow.
One of the most memorable viewing sessions of my life was watching Sidewalks of New York on the DVD player in my roommate/best bro's room after we had finished working out.
You put a pizza and a bottle of wine in that story and it's the best one I've heard all year!

No particular order. Just by association. If a movie isn't on there that should be, I probably just haven't seen it yet.

High Fidelity
Empire Records
Rope
Lost in Translation
Down by Law

The Royal Tenenbaums
The Godfather
Mulholland Dr.
Blue Velvet
Rushmore

Life is Beautiful
The 400 Blows
Cinema Paradiso
Bicycle Thieves
La Strada

Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry
Jackie Brown
Stranger than Paradise
The Matrix
The Graduate

Drive
Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?
Can't Hardly Wait
Rear Window
Robocop

This is a weird exercise. I feel very confident about my top 15, but I'm worried that the next ten don't really hang.

Rope is brilliant you fool. You get a double whammy of suspense through the tense one shot camera work and the creepy plot, you get a grim lesson in the theoretical versus the practical when it comes to morality and relativism and James Stewart delivers what I would consider the best monologue of his career.
