Omg! Thad Jones is amazing! I don't know how it took me so long to discover him. The first three Blue Note records are so good.

I thought Steely Dan might be my gateway drug into jazz, a genre I've struggled to enjoy my whole life.
Nope.

I do love Krzysztof Komeda's score for Knife in the Water, though. Does this count?

Quantum Trio - Duality. My favorite jazz album of 2017. I can hear some Coltrane, Kamasi Washington and Ambrose Akinmusire on their sound (among others).
That's the first cd. It's a double album and can be found from here: https://quantumtrio.bandcamp.com/

That is awesome. Really enjoying it so far. The opening track was good but "Eigenstates" and "Entropy" really grabbed me.
I posted about this elsewhere but Fabian Almazan's Alcanza and Linda May Han Oh's Walk Against Wind have been two of my favorite albums this year. Just incredible

Not sure if this came before or after Mingus Ah Um, but I much prefer the MAU version. Not really a big band guy, though.theplatypus wrote:
