It's like Brad Pitt was in a totally different movie than everyone else.

That is a really good way to describe it, Burt. Been Kingsley was funny though. And the scene where they were both trying to hang up from Skype

Me too. Which is weird because I don't remember it doing anything offensive and I do remember being intrigued by some familiar faces. It just felt weird.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I watched like 10 minutes of that

I'm guessing Sony and/or paramount will be dead in a year. This is fucking ridiculous. What happened to Hollywood?

Re: Post Random Movie-Related Thoughts You Have
netflix has definitely evolved to fill in the culture gap between tv (which is basically dead as an entertainment vehicle imo, other than a couple decent cable channels and pay channels), and movies , which even when worth seeing are expensive as hell. But I'm thinking more about why did horror flicks, action flicks, escapism in general become the mian seller in hollywood? a movie like ordinary people wouldn't last a week in a movie theater now.
I don't have a point really

You're forgetting live sports. An extremely important, and still very relevant, tent pole of TV.malice wrote:netflix has definitely evolved to fill in the culture gap between tv (which is basically dead as an entertainment vehicle imo, other than a couple decent cable channels and pay channels), and movies , which even when worth seeing are expensive as hell. I would say entertainment and community more than escapism. Sports bring people together, whether to cheer or to argue.malice wrote:That's true however, i think sports are escapism too, no?Monkey_Driven wrote:You're forgetting live sports. Sports are typically how civilized society play out mock battles and avoid real ones too, which is whyi lean towards escapism, but agree they can be community building exercises also.Monkey_Driven wrote:I would say entertainment and community more than escapism. Not surprised one bit that you enjoyed this.tragabigzanda wrote:Yeah, I think The Founder counts. I really liked that one.
Had to pause and get ready for work with an hour left in the film. Can't wait to finish it later.
Bright and colorful set and costume design, food and bev business geek out moments and Laura Dern? Up my alley.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I haven't seen a lot of the other food/chef movies mentioned in that conversation a page or two ago, but The Founder seems destined to be near the top of any list of F&B films that "get it right." That scene on the tennis court almost felt like watching porn to me. Porn for people with a sick sick fetish for efficient, slick, industrial kitchens.

I read this post after writing what I said about that scene being porn. I don't care what the rest of the board says about ya, Trag. You're true blue. Service industry bros for life.
tragabigzanda wrote:I just loved his grit so much. Watching them mock up their service flow on the tennis court gave me a humongous boner.
