Remember a band called Pavement? (Mostly Jick Talk)

Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

Both are top Pavement for me, but I like that tail end on Wowee Zowee a lot. That album is loaded and crowded to me, but Kennel District kicks of a stretch that really opens everything up like a road leading away from a city towards some desert oasis.

The Hexx is my favorite track off TT, but would probably struggle to reach my Top 30.

Nigel Godrich is a big reason I like that record so much. He did some good work on that track, particularly.

Been listening to a lot of Pavement this week, for some reason I had never given enough attention to their records past the first 2.

The amount of 00s indie rock bands that borrowed elements from them is crazy.

I've got this on now. I don't think I've ever actually listened to Spiral's solo stuff. Fun to listen and pick out the things he brought to Pavement. Are we totally sure this isn't actually Lee Ranaldo singing on this thing, though?

Other than Dylan, Malkmus is my favorite lyricist.

I'm just gonna keep posting in here.

The opening combo of "Stereo" and "Shady Lane" on BTC is unbeatable.

"You've been chosen as an extra in the movie adaptation of the sequel to your life" is one of my favorite SM lyrics.

That's why I changed the thread title. Why limit ourselves?

I've said it a different way just a few posts ago, but this Spiral Stairs album is really enjoyable. Sure, it came out earlier this year, but listening to it now I can hear this unmistakable late summer vibe with those jangly guitars. Part sunny, part lazy, kind of melancholy.

I might have to revisit some Pavement albums soon with an ear tuned to Kannberg's frequency.

Playing Brighten the Corners today. Transport is Arranged is such a monster of a track. I think my love for this song prepared me for things like Queens of the Stone Age.

I wonder if Spiral and SM ever properly "made up." From what I've read they were basically besties at the beginning of Pavement, then had a massive falling out that facilitated the break up of the band. I've read some interviews with both of them during and after the reunion tour and they really don't seem like they're "friends" anymore. Rock and roll break ups aren't anything new, but this one bothers me. Maybe it's because they were such a fun band.

I hope they patch things up at some point.

As much as I love Pavement and Malkmus, I've never bothered to learn their story. Any good books or noteable interviews you can point me to? How about that documentary?

There's not a lot. "The Slow Century" and a 33 1/3 book about WZ.

The rest of what I know is just gleaned from various interviews.

Basically, SM started to take more and more control of the band. To the point where 90% of TT is just SM and Nigel Goodrich.
