Absolutely in the conversation.Birds in Hell wrote:The very worst Pearl Jam song.
This feels completely off the mark. When I hear "Sleeping By Myself", both in the instrumental arrangement and in the harmonic and melodic turns it takes, it seems very clear that they're going for an older, AM radio country-ditty feel; I hear Loudon Wainwright, the Louvin Brothers, Felice and Boudleaux Bryant (the vocal harmonies at the very end being the first and only time Pearl Jam has sounded like the Everly Brothers). Plus, the stomp-alongs you speak of strive for an overall bigness that I think is completely absent from "Sleeping By Myself", which, even in its few moments of release, feels modest and quaint. I like this song a lot.Birds in Hell wrote:though the performance itself seems to takes cues from that faux-bohemian campfire festival stomp-along vibe that I hate in popular music,

I don't know, I think it's what Matt's playing and an underlying bounce that comes from Ed having written the song on the ukulele.theplatypus wrote:This feels completely off the mark.
