Buying a phone outright seems pretty insane to me too. I just sign up for a contract and bequeath old handsets to family members.

Yeah, I can't see the sense in buying an iPhone outright.

I dont know how it works for you guys but here, if you get a bill plan phone, say this new one, it'll be 1000 to buy outright, sim free with no contract, but if you get it on a 12/24 month contract you'll end up paying twice that much or even more, for the phone.. cheaper in the long run to buy it outright.

In Australia I'd take a contract. In the UK I always bought it outright then got a cheap £5/month deal. In fact my iPhone 4 I bought in the UK and I'm on a $15/month deal. (Bastards upped it. It was $8).

Yep, in Australia you can buy a phone outright and then pay a set monthly fee like $49 per month for a call/data cap without a contract. Or you can go on a contract for 24 months and pay the same call/data fee, plus an extra $5 or $10 per month for the phone, then keep the phone at the end.

It's just plain silly to buy a phone outright here.

4s and 5 were virtually identical apart from 4s not being able to do 4G

also, does anyone know what the point of icloud is? i recently discovered it only stores your photos youve uploaded, for one month...entirely pointless..
