I don't feel like too many people are attributing sentience to it just yet.

I haven't seen much of that either. I get the feeling that the average internet superuser has at least a cursory understanding of what natural language processing and machine learning are, even if they don't call it that.

Self-awareness and theory of mind are still a ways away

Boy, the tone of conversations surrounding GPT and Midjourney/Stable Diffusion/etc. couldn't be more different. First is hope and wonder. Second is paranoia and terror. Mentioning AI around the "art community" is enough to get you burned at the stake.

The woke guardrails on GPT seem to limit it's usefulness.

I can't imagine any of those artists that did sketches on commission were doing better than marginally existing. Oh god, the first use of this will be for furry content and they will flood the internet with their smut.

This was an actual commercial? How?

Part of me thinks that Zuck is actually trying to warn us about the future, or else trying to make it look so unattractive that people will move away from it. But then i remember that he's actually just a sociopath.

Maybe Chat Gpt-3 is Catholic and by the standard of our current moment, uttering a racial slur is a mortal sin. They just worry about the prompt creator's eternal soul.

Sounds like Microsoft is beating everyone to the market (and this is the last market).

Amazon and others are pulling funding from automation/ robotics because of inability to replace humans cost effectively. Kind of wild that we can automate wordcels well before we have fully automated factories/ warehouses.
