This thread is called "Directors Who Only Make Consistently Excellent Movies." I like Clint Eastwood a lot when he's on his game but he is absolutely not "consistently excellent" by any stretch of the imagination.

True, like I said as well, it doesn’t even remotely fit Clint. But if we’re honest it hardly fits anyone else either.

Philippe Lesage fits this for me but he's only made 3 proper movies. Shouldn't count

Basically the thread says that whoever fits the description, their worst movie is excellent (or worst couple of movies). Doesn’t matter what or how good their best movies are.

So the question for Scorcese as for any other, is what is Scorcese’s worst movie, and is it excellent?

I find that he has been involved as a director in 40 feature films. A few of them are compilations, and a few are minor documentaries. Removing those, I am left with 33 movies, out of which I have seen 24 (plus a couple of the compilation movies).

Of the ones I haven’t seen, Boxcar Bertha and New York, New York seems worst rated.

Of the ones I have seen, all are at least three star movies. That’s pretty good. I enjoyed the lesser rated movies Bringing Out The Dead and Who’s That Knocking On My Door, more than beloved movies like Cape Fear and After Hours, that were not big hits for me.

Most of his stuff between Bringing Out the Dead and The Departed is boring and Shutter Island is terrible.

I just don't want people to be upset with me if I choose the wrong director again.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I will concede that Death Proof kind of sucks. I had forgotten it even existed. Clint fucking Eastwood, though.
