When writing songs himself he does tend to gravitate toward more complex stuff though so I don't think it's that silly to think that's what's most fun to him. That of course doesn't mean it's obvious he's bored with spritzy punk but it's not silly to think so.

saying all the members of PJ have been "having a blast" with their late career music is just as much projection as mine

I said im sure theyre having a blast when they play their music together. Im not saying they have all been creatively fulfilled. There's a difference.

what's the difference? I say relatively bored, you say creatively unfulfilled, tomatoes tomatoes; hopefully I unpacked "bored" and communicated creatively unstimulated

i feel like drummers in general gravitate toward more complex stuff. that doesnt mean he's not enjoy himself when he's playing something simple.

look, the thing is, you can be bored with the material you're playing in a band, you can love some of it and find other stuff kind of bland, and still enjoy being with your band, hanging out, playing together, being fulfilled emotionally as a friend and member of the team, and fulfilling your commitment to a decades-long relationship; I'm not suggesting he wants out of Pearl Jam - far from it - just that he finds some songs more interesting than others and it comes through in his playing

I don't care if they're having fun or not. I just want it to be engaging and interesting. I want it to sound like they've at least attempted to challenge themselves. Not have some beer and jam.

Pearl Jam having some beer and jamming > Pearl Jam "attempting to challenge themselves"

Yes of course. I think we are discussing two different things. I never suggested that he loves every song equally. All i stated was, im sure matt cameron is having fun regardless of complexities of songs or liking playing one song better than the other. Playing drums, with blasting guitars, in a band, is inherently fucking fun. Thats all i ever stated. I not arguing otherwise. Im not saying you are wrong. I am not even arguing against you.

All im saying is....im sure he hasn't been bored out of his mind.

I will never understand that mindset. Would you also enjoy watching a bunch of doofuses play drunken softball together more than MLB?

My original statement was "Where does this idea come from that something must be complex for a musician to have fun?"

I am certain that Neil Fucking Young is having the time of his goddamn life jamming on Like a Hurricane for 20 fucking minutes.

I used to love this band like they were my family, and I will always be interested to hear new stuff when they do it, but I don't pay to hang out with Pearl Jam anymore; I like it when I like it; that's not just because PJ have changed, it's largely because I have

Neil Young is a guitarist / vocalist / performer; if he felt uninspired, you'd have different evidence

Well, talent is generally a prerequisite, but maybe.

you really need a better analogy

its almost like some people listen to a different band. this isnt rush or tool. i'm sure some of pearl jam's best songs were written under the influence.

Oh, and I'd definitely enjoy watching MLB players get drunk and play.

I'm English so I use hyperbole like toilet paper; I don't think he's bored in PJ as a whole and I think that's what you heard, so I'm not fighting you either :)

I think Matt will be in PJ until their end
